what was the best PC game of 2003?
Can include Xpacks, sequels, ports, new games, all genres, whatever.

I'll go with Victoria. Paradox is always a safe bet.
Was Hearts of Iron 2002 or 2003?

Civ III: Conquests?
I wouldn't be able to tell, I didn't play any of the 2003 PC games (except for C3C, of course).
I wonder if KOTOR is really all that the magazines and gamesites say it is.

Morrowind: Bloodmoon (only because Morrowind is older than 2003).
Freelancer is a solid game, but it can't make it to the best game because of several shortcomings that could have been averted with not so much extra work.

I don't read those things, but it is a great fun game. Currently playing through as a dark side scoundrel/consular female.

I bought three NEW games I can think of.
Temple of Elemental Evil
MoO3
GalCiv
I think everything else I got is at least from 2002 or before.
Well, of those 3, I'd say GalCiv is a good candidate for the best game of 2003.

Victoria from Paradox, and even more after some patches I guess, as their games generally become better and better for each of them!

The only releases of 2003 I bought and still find worthwhile are KOTOR, Freelancer, Civ III Conquests and NWN Hordes of the Underdark.
Though most of the above definitely had their shortcomings, none of them disappointed me.
I did buy others (eg. Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, NWN Shadows of Undrentide and Age of Mythology: The Titans but they weren't as great and I'm not playing them nearly as much.

Conquests is eating most of my time, the only other things that I bought new this year were MoO3, Freelancer, and Gal Civ. All have been put away.

I just got KOTOR - wow! Awesome game.
Still, I think in the long run C3C will have a better shelf life.... so that's probably what I'd consider the "best" for the year.

Hmm... honestly, I don't think I own any games that were released in 2003... unless maybe Empire Earth: THe ARt of Conquest Expansion counts? (I bought it for $5 at a local bargain bin )
which is really strange... by my count I have over 125 games and yet, only about 10 of them are newer than 2001
I guess I'm just content with my games
and only buy from the bargain bins
The last game I paid full price for was Neverwinter Nights... and oh how I regret that purchase since it took me a year to make it run on ANY computer

NO WAY on Morrowind- Bloodmoon. While the game is fantastic and adds a great looks to the best game ever, it adds very little in gameplay (mission time).
I'd go with RON if it's a 2003 game.

Oh, and HOW DID I FORGET?!
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
It came out in May 2003... even though it came out in 2002 for PS2, I say it counts!

Ok, I'll have to go with games that I discovered in 2003...
Medal of Honour: Allied Assault
Deus Ex (I haven't finished playing it yet, but that's due to exogeneous factors)...

Oh, and I'm surprised to hear that something in the Star Wars franchise is actually good... How many games on that theme does LucasArts churn out during a year?

I think part of it has to do with the time frame - they set the game 4000 years before the events in the movies, so they could actually develop a strong story instead of attempting to weave it into one of George's weak story lines.

KOTOR
RON
GTA:VC
C3C
All outstanding, haven't finished KOTOR yet... I'm leaning in that direction over GTA:VC in the action/adventure/RPG category, with RON edging out C3C (if only because I'm less inclined to name a xp GOTY) in the strategy category. Call it a push.
Still haven't tried RON in MP... any recommendations for a newbie?
