UK is dead. I think France is slightly stronger than them in terms of raw influence because their foreign policy is more independant, and because Germany tends to be more friendly towards them
I think you guys are underestimating China. They've got ICBMs, and everyone is afraid of them. Even the US, who will never dare do something against Iran because they are China's oil suppliers. Look at what happened recently, about the US not supporting Taiwan's parliament? It says a lot about the shift of power in the world.
Japan is very strong in that the US badly needs them in the Asian strategic area. Their military spendings are higher than France and UK too, but lower than Russia and China.
And Canada? Don't make me laugh. I'd put Poland and Romania before them.

Ted Striker:
Let me doubt your numbers. France is twice as populated as California and yet you claim their GDP is lower? Hmmm, doubtful.

Then why whine about the rebuilding contracts and the diplomatic snubs? The truth is that we could not have helped the US in Iraq and Afghanistan at the same time. Heck, we have to hitch rides with the Yanks just to get them to Iraq in the first place.

And? We did more than not send a force; we also didn't expres approval, and expressed reserved disapproval. Sending actual aid was not a prerequisite for being on their "good" list; a quick scan of the nations they included will tell you that...

Wrong, IIRC North Korea has more (at least in terms of the number of people in the military).

Well, there may be a mistake.
Everyone knows that France GDP is ~24,000$ per capita.
US GDP is ~$30,000$ per capita.
France pop: ~60 millions
California pop: ~ 30 millions.
I'm quite sure there must be a mistake somewhere, and not in my estimates.

I still think my list is the best so far, I might be willing to bump Israel out of the 10th slot for Italy or Canada though.

We sent 'em cash.
How hard can it be to avoid sending troops you don't have? Chretien did the only thing he could have done to save face.
As for the complaints, I've heard it from many Canadians who did not support Iraq. If we are going to stand up to the Yanks, we should be willing to accept the consequences.

a) We'll see what the WTO has to say aout that
b) We shouldn't have given them cash, but it was after war efforts were done, and was a fairly small amount
c) You bring up a point I've brought up before. Why should we give them cash if they're going to treat us like ****? No reason I can see. **** 'em.

See, the problem part with the British for all the rest of you tossers, is the Brits managed to create an empire who actually wanted and want to belong to it, even if they think it outmoded and too much of a burden today.
Even the Indians, who for reasons of their own go their own way, maintian links with the Imperial power and wouldn't trade English or cricket for anything. They are misguided in that cricket bit, but nobody's perfect.
So, go ahead comrade, have fun. As your empire of fear crumbled around you, you can think forlorn thoughts about how someone else actually got it right long before you tried, and their achivements will be remembered long after the dead husk of your tyranny is forgotten in the ash heaps of history.
Oh yes, and I fully expect some Aussie to flame this post.
