Which would traditionally have to do with a bronze statue of some bearded schmuck in Leningrad?

What type of trees are those going to be? And what exactly is that matte glass wall structure?

The trees in the model aren't really representative, from what I understand. They are going to redo the model with more accurate representations. There will apparently be groves and such.
I was under the impression that this design incorporated remnants of the first towers. Perhaps that is used in the structure.

When I look at this design, I do think "New York City 9-11 Commemoration Hotel and Spa".

It looks like the plaza outside my mall.
Honeslty I think we should have just built two more impresive buildings to show that the terrorists accomplished nothing. It is a waste of good realistate, and it seems to me that theses days memorials seem to be more open space "for reflection and thought" than any symbolism to depict what actually happened. How about a bronze statue showing firefighters and citizens a la the Iwo Jima memorial? Monuments like that will be striking people for hundreds of years. In thirty people will look at this and think who distastful contemporary architecture was back then.
All this is is a plaza. Hell if you don't actually walk up to the holes there IS no monument because you can't see anything. Not to mention in 20 years this will be used like all other memorial public squares in big cities, as a place for people to eat their lunch. Especially given its surroundings.
And what is that big white scafolding supposed to be.

I present my proposal:
Glaring Absence
It's a place where you can sit down and reflect on lifes many horrors.
We, of course, intend to write the names of the victims in the dirt so that they'll be immortalized.

It looks like a giant ***ing radiator with Tamiya greenery applied to no representative end. "Two pools of water", that's grande - not at all what every 6 year old’s crayon submission to CNN so brilliantly dreamt up.

Exactly. They should be equally deep as the towers were tall and filled with the charred corpses of some 3,000 Basenji hounds

They emphisize the death and destruction, which shouldn't be forgotten, but they should also remember all the heros of the day as well, those who lived and those who fell. A simple obelisk or arch or something would be better than this, at least them it would have class. This collection of newage......whatever it is surely doesn't.

In fact, they should be deeper (in order to show the terrorists that we're better than they are), and it should go directly down to hell.
Then we'll simply shove any terrorist (or liberal commie pinko) we find into it
I couldmake a really tasteless joke here, but I won't.

I think public opinion wanted to reclaim the tallest building on the site, but too many people figured it woudl just be another target.

The 1776 Freedom tower hasn't been cancelled.
Say, call me silly - but doesn't our little glass radiator near specifically echo the dimensions and placement of WTC6?

The 1776-foot tower is still being built, this is just the design for the memorial that will be a part of the whole complex. All the lost office space is being replaced. Not that it's needed, since we already have a huge glut of office space in the city. The ESB is only a little over half full, and there is far more space than demand.
Bronze statues, obelisks and archways are dull and a dime-a-dozen. They would provoke mere shrugs of the shoulders, not any sense of loss or awe. Why memorialize something so profundly effecting with something common and uninspired?
And New York could use some more open spaces, especially downtown--I like that aspect of the plan. Crowded blocks of generic skyscrapers gets dull after a bit, not to mention claustrophobic. Still, this particular plan hasn't yet inspired me.

That is becasue there is nothing to put your finger on, it is just open space. They pobobly just didn't want to pay for the landfill to get rid of the holes.

I find it actually quite elegant. Much better than making two new humongous horrors defacing NY's skyline once again.

Memorials should be large and built in stone with bronze plaques and stuff and look like they are meant to last forever.
This looks like the sort of thing a developer puts in whilst waiting for the money to build the next bit of the development on that part of the site.
