How do you destroy facilities in a base without destroying the base?
Say for example you captured a base with a SP and you know you won't be able to keep the base so can you destroy that SP before it is retaken? It happened in one of my pbem but I had never understood what happened.

I'm still new to those acronyms - SP? I'll look it up, there's a list somewhere.
Hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot here... but I think you can sell off facilities?

Secret project.
Yes you can kill facilities but only 1 per base per turn.

Ok so what had happened in this senerio? This happened to my pactmate. A base has two (or three?) SPs had a riot (for some turns perhaps). The next turn it turned to another faction. The next turn it was captured back but all the SPs are gone. What had happened?

Weird they shouldnt have. It was a player i assume who took the base (since i've never seen the AI sell facilities) and even assuming the player feared he was going to lose the base and therefore wanted to damage it, since the base wasn't obliterated he should only have been able to destroy one SP max ...

Well I'm sure at least two SP were destroyed. Both factions were human. Maybe it had been two turns before he took it back hmmm.
A related question, what does it mean when Vel said "sell of the most expensive facility at the place and burn it down"?

Damn straight it's an atrocity. I would never do that, even if it is "just a game". I don't know, that sort of thing makes me very uncomfortable.

A Base if in riots too long (Uni prone to it hence need to build Rec Coms and things) will change to another faction. (usually the Drones , if they are a participating faction). Now the new owner of the base has two choices:
a) try to defend the base in enemy territory and risk being probed before building adeqate defenses or
b) build a cheap combat unit and destroy the base (in the action menu press B)
This is also regarded as an atrocity.
I suspect what happened was b) and the original bases was reborn from the ashes sans facilities
