The first Dune game was (as far as I know) more RPG'ish... I've never played it though, so I'm not sure... but that's from what I heard..
But Command and Conquer was a very bad rip-off of Dune 2

yeah i had the first dune game on the amiga, very much an 'action-adventure', never played the boardgame though so i couldn't tell you how close it is to that.
what i'd like to see - a new championship manager which doesn't take a supercomputer to run. CM4 is acceptable but 03/04 is just a bad joke. i wouldn't mind civ4 being good without having to fork out 60 quid on ****ing expansions as well

Morrowind + Fallout = heaven .
I'd love to see an RPG be an actual world, you can explore, like Morrowind, with the dialog and character advancement of Fallout.

I think that I have it, but it would be easier if you could "find" it yourself. I only played one scenario and said...hmmm...after pg2, and star general, and peoples general, I'm kinda tired of this engine.
Also The day after I posted the "request" for more original games. I looked at my recent purchases made over the X-mas holidays that are still waiting to be played.
Diablo 2
NOLF 2
Europa Univeralis 2
Max Payne 2
They are all 2's...freaky!

The first Dune was RPGish, interacting with all the characters from the books/movies.
Dune2 was the prequal to Command and Conquer, notable for not only creating a new genre, but for being one of the few radically different sequals that actually was better than the original.
Thief 3 may be in production, but it is by the same people who mutilated Deus Ex 2...

Yeah it always bugs me when people tout C&C as creating the whole genre.
Btw I share the concerns about Thief3........I really don't hope they dumb it down like Deus Console 2.

i heard a while back that thief 3 was going to be set in a city which you could just walk around and find things to do, kinda like a medieval GTA
don't know if it's still taking that form though, or whether they are reverting to a more traditional mission structure.

Hopefully they at least kept location damage, unlike DE2.
I can see walkthru's now if not:
"Sneak to the shadows below the staircase and wait for the guard to walk past you on the landing above. Get your blackjack out and wack his foot. Now that he is knocked out..."

The good news is that Thief 3 is being worked on. The bad news is that Thief 3 is being worked on by the same people who brought you Deus Ex. 2.

The Dune boardgame is probably closer to diplomacy than anything else. Or at least our games always ended up with players huddled in corners negoitating over when to blow the shield wall.
Games i'd like to see.. Arcanum 2, Baldur's Gate 3 and Falllout 3. I see a theme as i;ve never really embraced the idea of 3D RPG. I'd like more depth and greater ability to roleplay rather then fancy graphics - so no, not a great Morrowind fan then

Apparently the just-canceled Fallout 3 would have been in 3d .

Really? I never saw that info anywhere... Could be just me, though, as I didn't follow the development of the game too closely.
I still wonder if that thing Urquhart said about the former BIs developers buying the game rights from Interplay has any substance behind it... If that were the case, then maybe not all is lost for F3.
EDIT: Ohhhh! I now remember a couple screenies of Fallout 3 I saw and they indeed looked sorta 3D-ish, but I think the game still preserved the sort of isometric look to it...

It'd have to be better thought out then WW2online, of course, and have more signifigant objectives on the strategic level, and perhaps customizable vehicles and weapon loads, ect... I don't actually know much about the warhammer universe, but that might be a good candidate to base it on.

You could do a lot worse than basing it on the BattleTech universe. It has been in development for years, giving it a very rich history, and a diverse world.
You could be one of the Mech warriors.

A new TBS, not necessarily Civ 4, but which incorporates the best elements of the biggies, i.e.:
Civ 3's strategic and luxury resources, traits, and unique units
SMAC's planetary council, unit workshop, social engineering, and "flavor" (quotes, movies, etc.)
CtP 2's stacked combat and public works
GalCiv's diplomatic model
It would also be nice to have multilateral negotiations and alliances.

 for Larry coming back.
It would be good to see "Jefferson" and Fallout 3 both rise from the wreckage of Black Isle if at all possible.
System Shock 3
More RPG's using the ToEE engine but with much better plot.
A decent Middle Earth strategy game.
Something akin to Guynemers' ultimate TBS
Any MMOG that didn't bore me to tears after 3 months.

I'd like to see a space 4X game with a twist; all the players start on the same planet, which eventually becomes a Coruscant-style city planet, with far more economic potential than any other world. Do you seek to explore the universe and gain riches that way, or build up your influence on the homeworld? An advanced system of colonization would also be used, involving claims, treaties, mandates, etc, that would end the all too common 'settler diarrhoea'.

Well, it's not official yet. But there are rumours... Check out them out here.
And also note the news headline about strategy first's poll.

That sounds like a really interesting idea, actually.
