Sit ups mostly. Try doing them with your legs flat on the floor, and lifting your whole torso, not curling as per usual. With feet up is harder, as Asher says, but works the top of the abs mostly. Either way, they are mostly for the six-pack, ie the front of the abs. To work the core muscles, it's back exercises. Either try pilates, or simply sit on a seat and draw a large figure of 8 with your body.

I was going to use another picture for Boxers, it's the same guy but he's wearing some kind of semi-transparent boxers. But I don't need a banning right now.

thanks for the tips guys

i will try it out those routines and see how it goes

my upper abs are really strong as is the rest of my body and you can see 4 of them on lifting days

then there is the lower part that looks like a pot belly and it's like somebody else's body is attached to mine!!!

what kind of reps are you guys using, do you just add a rep each day or? also do you train abs every day? 3 times a week? do you do all 3 excercises every day you work abs?

I did about 5 sets of 60 every day for 3 years and they appear to be permanent now.

By the way, slow movement while breathing out during lift is most important. With proper breathing/contraction you can start feeling the burn rather quickly (within the first 20)

If you do them fast and without breathing you can do situps all day and not feel it.

thanks man for the breathing tip

it's really cool how when you lift certain muscles are permanent on your body

i've neglected my abs for years so need to start paying attention to them

i've always done like squats and deadlifts and stuff like that...

Mine too, I've always had some natural definition. But it looks even better with situps.

Ted: I do about 5 sets of 30 every day, though I do the first 3 when I start my routine and the last 2 near the end.

I mostly use the Swedish Army boxers, aquired from the army surplus store at 2€ each. Comfortable, durable and cheap

(But you can't really say sexy)

Boxers for me, or commando. When it's humid, I have to wear boxers, but I prefer to go without.

BTW, sit-ups are bad for your back. You should do crunches instead.

Technically, it's all one muscle. There are 10 possible visable bumps, but the top two are partially covered by the ribcage, and the bottom two are shaped differently, and are usually to low to be visible in anyone but professional bodybuilders. It's commonly refered to as a 6-pack because that's all that should be visible on a healthy person. If you can see 8 then you almost certainly ahve too little fat, below the guideline 10-15% being optimal for a male. Most bodybuilders/professional sportsmen are too low for health reasons, but it's not considered that serious unless it gets below 5%, which few people get to.

Thats true. There are in fact ten but I've never seen more than 8. The bottom 4 look more like 2 long ones.

As to whether that's too little fat. You can see eight on the model on the previous page.

Boris, does he have too little fat?

I meant in terms of health. Less than 10% fat does compromise health. The only people in danger are sportsmen who are very low, like some sprinters and bodybuilders who are around 3%, but it is supposed to be unhealthy havign too little.

Leg lifts, as KH mentioned. You can either use one of those contraptions where prop yourself up on your elbows and lift your legs up, or simply lie on your back on a bench while I gently mass...er, um, I mean, and lift your legs up. Be sure to get your hips off the bench when your legs are up.

Another thing you can do is to raise your legs while doing basic crunches. This will work your lower abs more than the upper.

If you have an exercise ball, you can use that for general core strength improvement. Having to balance yourself on the ball while doing crunches really works a lot of different muscle groups, even your lower back.

Just say no to ab rollers and the like.

Oh, and I wear either boxers or boxer-briefs. I rarely wear briefs, for sporting purposes.

thanks drogue, asher, krazyhorse, Boris, Sikander and anybody else I forgot to mention

hey, okay, one more question if you guys feel like answering.

Do you do anything for your obliques? or do the situps take care of it? this is like a serious problem area that is hard to tighten up...

Obliques? AFAIK, the best way is to lay on your back, put your feet in the air, and move them as far as you can from side to side?
