Finbar - I'm really hoping that one of you keeps unusual hours. You 3 have the same score, and I couldn't tell where Empress is located (not in her profile).
Do you think it will be impossible to arrange a mutual playing time?

Arranging times for our group could be a MAJOR hassle. Due to work and family responsibilities, I can only play after 9pm in the evening, Australian time (GMT + 10 I think) It might have been better if players in similar time zones were grouped together. I may have to drop out so as not to hold up the others

Oh great... I thought you were in the US! Serves you right for not putting your location in your profile.
Well, what if I switched you to Game C (with Carnide, SmartFart and Deity)? Would that work?
Or could you trade with SmartFart? Where is *he* at?
Having lured you *into* this tourney, I have no intention of letting you *out* of it.

I'm in Australia, I'd be happy to swap with someone or just join the Deity group. Deity and I play evenings from about 9pm Australian time. I don't want to hold up the group I'm currently in, who sound keen to play.
Can we try and sort this out ASAP? I'm going away for the weekend and I don't want to delay the eager beavers. On the other hand, I don't want to miss out on a place either.

Alexander's Horse and SmartFart -
Thanks, guys, for the timely and accomodating responses!
I think the easiest thing is to just move Alexander's Horse to Game C. That leaves 3 US players together in one game, and a pair each of Europeans and Aussies in the other game.
The adjusted groups are:
Game A - Aritea (host), Jedi, Markus, Nappy
Game B - Curumbor (host), Crustacian, Mark Everson
Game C - Carnide (host), Deity, SmartFart, Alexander's Horse
Game D - CapTVK, Empress, Finbar (host)

(P.S. to Alexander's Horse)
I find that when I confuse someone for an American, it is usually an Aussie!

CapTVK - Does that mean that you think you can accomodate a schedule agreeable to Empress and Finbar? If so, I think everything is workable for all the games.

Empress is in the US, one hour behind the East Coast whichever zone that is. We've already been in contact - me with Emp, and me with Cap - and will sort something out. Probably have to be weekends.
So seafood's off, Horse?
Oh, and cavebear - don't worry about mistaking Horse's origins. We view him and treat him as a complete foreigner anyway.

Jedi has withdrawn from the tourney. Game A will proceed with Arii, Markus, and Nappy... I regret Jedi's absence; he *is* among the best of the best...

TOURNEY ALERT!
Now that we have lost Alexander's Horse and Jedi, all the games are down to 3 players. It seems to me that it would be best to make it 3 games of 4 payers instead and to try and get pplayers together by time zone.
I apologize for this change, but necessity forces it. I *really* apologize for any games underway and the efforts that all of you have made to get those games going.
I propose the following new groupings:
Game A - Aritea (host), Crustacian, Markus, Nappy
Game B - Curumbor (host), Deity, Finbar, Mark Everson
Game C - Carnide (host), CapTVK, Empress, SmartFart
These should be workable for time, and it preserves (to the extent possible), the most equal scoring players facing each other.
The assignment of hosts seems alphabetical, but it is entirely coincidental. I was quite surprised myself. They are simply the ones who *can* host, but did not in their previous game. I've been rotating that duty as best I can.
I really do apologize for the changes in groupings, but I see no other choice. One group could not find a mutual time to play (and they made outstanding attempts). I think it will work out for the best this way. If any group stated a game, I hope you will continue it on your own, but the tourney has to shift a bit...
Comments? Problems?

The only snag I can think of is that in my game we now have 2 Aussies and 2 Americans. I can foresee some major scheduling problems.

That's not such a problem as trying to cover USA, Europe and Australia!
How about 2100 USA EDT this Fri night? This will be 10am Sat morning here. Or even a bit later, maybe...

It shouldn't be a problem. Deity and I are in the same timezone, and we've had longrunning games with American friends, and I haven't had a problem with the Diplo game. We're 14 hours ahead of US East Coast. In fact, the US and Australian timezones, are, on the whole, a lot more compatible than any others.
The bugger was the game scheduled between Empress in the States, CapTVK in the Netherlands and me in Australia. I'm 8 hours ahead of Cap, and 15 ahead of Empress. There was no feasible time to play - unless we took it in turns to get up at 3am.
I'm available this (US) Friday night from 9pm EDT. Same for (US) Saturday night.
PS. Deity - their 9pm EDT is our 11am.

Friday nights are a bit iffy as I have to get up early Saturday mornings, and I had already scheduled a game for Friday (tribe game, it shouldn't last long, actually). Saturday night is better.

Just wanted to bump this topic back to the top with the results of our third round game. Crustacian's schedule did not allow him to play. We had a three player game with Arii, Markus, and myself. Markus got off to a slow start, evidently having bad luck with huts and corruption, so he trailed behind Arii and myself the entire game. Arii and I were running neck and neck demographically and on the power graph, but Arii had just finished a super science city with Colossus, CopOb, and Newton's in Pisae, and threatened to run away from us in the tech race. I sent a fleet of five triremes across 27 hexes of ocean to attack the city of Pisae in 1040A.D. Not only did Pisae fall, but the capital of Rome and the city of Veii were left undefended and they also were overrun in the same turn. Arii lost HG and JSB along with all the super science city wonders and capitulated in 1060A.D. It was a close fought game that Arii could have easily won had he completed his city walls in Pisae one turn earlier. We now wait for the completion of all the other 3rd round games, and the start of the 4th round.

SmartFart, there are 4 rounds planned. To keep the interests of players balanced, I set up 2 Duels and 2 MP rounds.
