Thats the strangest thing about this all.
Sure, these threads are pure spam. But it is interesting spam. I read those old threads every few times this comes up just for a few laughs, and will be following this thread until it drops again.

What?
I guessed a date and the question where posted that date, and I had nothing to do with that it was posted so if someone tricked someone into asking someone did it on the wrong day for someone to win .

Am I the only one a little concerned that Ming got it almost dead right? Surely he could have used his mysterious powerZ to prompt the poster to post now? Perhaps through a creative use of the ban function until he was close enough to his time? Or perhaps he edited his original guess without leaving that little "Edited by xxxx" sticker on the post? Or maybe he is just fooling us all with those hypnotic eyes....
Anyways, Feb 16, if it's not taken.

Well I've updated the list for rah, and will do so if anyone else wants to post their bets too. Unless anyone complains convincingly, I'll only do this tomorrow and then it should close. If you have guessed but your name hasn't gone onto the list then don't kick up a fuss unless the list has been updated since you made your post. However, this special offer only lasts for a day (or so), because we want this to drop off the front page, and the contest can then commence!

Duke of York.........it usually stays active for longer than a couple of days, then drops peacefully off of the first page, when the thread will get closed. The only exception is when the thread attracts spam (whatever next ) and Ming closes it before the usual 7-10 day voting period.

Yeah, but my editing a single post won't actually bring the thread back to the top.
Even so, I can't be bothered searching for it ages later if someone wants to guess. It can die a nice natural death.

Well thank you, CR.
I popped "the question" and in less than an hour I found 12 responses ( I think 5 of them by Theben). It was, to me, something like openning an exploding jack-in-the-box. For someone with my blood pressure that was quite a scintillating moment.
My problem is that I only JUST started looking beyond the Civ2 boards, thanks to the Hall of Fame vote. My loss, waiting so long. So, I failed in the due diligence end by not checking the past threads beyond the first page. And THAT realization hit me immediately. I had stepped into something, for sure.
So, now I know. MarkG was correct; this is a very interesting bit of sociology...and quite funny.

Come to the OT, you will never leave ...
The question was also funny because about once a month some starts a stat war. Inevitably someone ends up asking what the heck those numbers mean

As the honoree of this latest spamfest I have a few thoughts after reading all the previous installments. This really is like an ongoing saga.
Hats off to MarkG for setting up this experiment and sticking with it. This is something like a con game on Candid Camera, very funny. Also, a tip of the hat to rah for perceiving in the begining days how this would be a continuously looping spamfest. Also, the vision of DrSpike to set up a "contest".
For future installments I recommend a few "canned" responses. The list of links is a must with the admonishment to completely read the first/oldest one that is the longest. Then there should be an answer like...

or/and this link to HongHu's answer

And then there could be a calendar of guesses as most recently provided by duke of york.
This would make things easier I think.
