I would'nt say the ESA screwed up. It's just not easy to land. Now, NASA screwed up when they got themselfs confused with metric vs english.
Too bad about the ESA probe. It would suck if it landed right next to something cool (besides freakin rocks) but was just unable to contact earth. We'll never know.

Go for the engine upgrade. The car itself is still your deadliest weapon.

I think subsequent satellite shots of the same formation from various angles showed rather conclusively that the "face" image was merely a coinidental trick of the light, and there's really nothing extraordinary there.

yeah, in different pics, it goes to a half-man, half-lion, to a full lion, to a big pitted rock. haha
on that site the pic was on, I assume you've heard of it, enterprisemission.com , they think that its more reflective than a normal rock should be, or something. Aha, its metal and "man" made!

Good job, NASA. Though things are moving depressingly slowly. I know they need to be careful, but damn, it's taking forever.
The ESA probe (or rather, the British probe, the ESA mission was an orbiter, and they agreed to tack on the probe later) may not have been a screwup (ala the metric vs. english measurement screwup NASA made) at all. Mars has eaten about half of all missions sent there. It's just really hard to do.
