They get written fine. All it is, is getting the admin to post it. All it is, is a long post about something civish. Can even write about the site or about games or about computers.

I sent in a column to DanQ (and accidentally to DanS) a month ago, no word at all. I'll just post it here in a couple days if nothing happens as a result of this thread.

Very few articles have been submitted for posting in "The Column" feature for some time. There has been the occasional report that the submit form is not working properly but my tests of it in turn are always successful. If this happens to someone, please just do as some others have and send it via email or PM with a note to that effect.
When candidate pieces are submitted to Markos and myself, we do our best to respond as quickly to them as possible to let the author know whether or not their work will be posted and if so roughly when. Miscommunications can occur when circumstances get hectic on and/or off-site, so if after sending in a potential "Column" you do not receive a response from either Markos or myself within four weeks do send us a reminder note.
In short, "The Column" feature has not been cancelled -- it has simply stagnated.

Lots of Poly features seem to have stagnated recently.

Dan: You know, with all the stagnated features which people want (e.g. The Column, etc.), and I'm sure there are people willing to help out, wouldn't it be a good idea to let people help out with these kind of things? It's just that we realise that yourself, and obviously Markos, are a lot busier than you used to be, and so these great features don't always get the attention they deserve.

That's right. It was just after he went through a phase of sitting on submitted articles for several months and responding to polite enquiries as to their possibility of being published with the sort of disdain normally only expressed by people closely observing a large turd at close range.
I swear that not even Nostradamus could have predicted that submission levels might fall after that.

With regards to "The Column", publishing pieces is not a problem for Markos and/or myself -- the difficulty is having pieces to publish! This is what I was getting at earlier.
Now, I'm not certan as to the other features that you are referring to above, but if you or someone else wants to bring them up in individual threads then by all means we can take a look at their status on a case-by-case basis.

Er, exactly how "irreverent" could the column get, and still retain the 'poly name?

What about the articles that were being "sat" on? I don't think they have been published yet either. Why not at least get them out and being read?
/me wonders why others keep mentioning his name.
I have never written an article and never will.

There are no articles on file that match the description above -- at least as it applies to me. On the rare occasion that submitted pieces were evaluated as needing revision or posting in another fashion, the author was informed.

Can the columns be anything related to Poly?
Could I do one, say on "The Rise & Fall of the Civ3 DemoGames?"

I like this feature but the last few columns I read got little response. I suggest if someone takes the time to write one we all take the time to read it.

If anyone had memories or commentary on the Civ3 DemoGames pm it to me. It doesn't have to be accurate. Its going to be in a very dry History Book style with lots of sarcasm and smart alec remarks.
