Didn't you realize that all Republicans became racists and didn't provide the necessary support to pass the Civil Rights legislation?

I'd fight for the souls of my Southern neighbors by going North and showing Union industry how to build tanks, planes, breech loading artillery with exploding shells, modern ammunition propellants, machine guns, and assault rifles. The war would be quick and decisive. I would do this because anyone with any sense should realize that everyone who has ever owned a slave has gone to hell, unless he repented and freed the slave with compensation prior to his death. Of course, those who fought to preserve slavery were equally hell- bound. Defeating the slave-owners immoral government then would have been a fight for the very souls of the white people of the South.

If the war was fought today I would marry Scarlet O'Hara and stay out of it.

Texas would be the winner, because we'd tell BOTH the North AND the South to kiss our collective asses.
We don't need any of you.
Trivia for the day. MrFun can argue if he wants; he'll just be wrong, again.
Neither Abe Lincoln nor Stephen Douglas were on the presidential ballot in Texas in 1860.
We were ready to leave, all on our own.

At the time, they were at the old Ft. Belknap.
That's how we got rid of the Comanche Injins.

I'm sure we've got some B-2s stashed away somewhere. And the battleship Texas, which you only think is a memorial.

I'd support the Union, and use my knowledge of the future to help crush the Rebels early on.

How about the signers of the declaration of indpendence and the constitiution and all those that fought for it in the early years? They all made compromises that ensured that those people remained in bondage for nearly a century more.

If I thought for one second that you were serious I'd call you a sumbeech.
Using this line of thinking I am surprised you are not out warring on the evil forces of abortion. While it might be debatable whether or not holding slaves would yield a ticket to hell, there isn't any doubt concerning any mother, nurse or doctor involved in the murder of innocent unborn children.

And just so you'll hear here first: Carolina's Edwards will finish in the first two spots in Iowa. I'll not predict a victory only because I want you yanks to really suffer. First, consider it. Then, have it shoved up your kazoo.

I think a lot of the problems US faces are caused by its size. It would be a much more liberal and enlightened place if there were fifty fights for liberty and enlightenment being fought instead of just one.

That's a rather impressive resume.
Sufficiently qualified to design and engineer all of the above using 1860's technology would be an astounding feat indeed. Even today there wouldn't be anybody else in the world even remotely capable of such.

It's an interesting argument when you think about it. I would argue that the two are not the same because there are still peaceful means of resolving the abortion dispute, whereas this may not be true of the civil war.
However, if we were able to go back in time and change history, would this necessarily be the case? Was the civil war inevitable?
