Yeah right, I heard that before.

When was the last time you care about Mrs Horse? Hmmm?

The technique I use is to start the process well in advance. Last September/October I fitted replacement front and back doors to the house. The process started around April with a general discussion along the lines of "the back door won't last another winter" and developed from there.

The beauty of this is that you can control when you actually get round to the work. The delay means she is pleased/relieved when the work is eventually done. There is lots of opportunity to highlight how difficult it is and therefore how good you are when you do it. It also allows for finding out how much it would cost to get someone else to do it and so how much you have saved. All good points scoring opportunities.

We have now started talking about redecorating a couple of rooms later this year. That should be good for the next 3 months.

Yes, I agree - those tasks should be 90% planning phase. Mrs Horse has renovation plans, some of which I'm hoping to delay for about 15 years. The trick is to keep the project in the planning phase....

I feel your pain. Problem is, my wife is home all week, and when the weekend comes around she thinks "Oh, good, he's finally home. What are we/is he going to do?"

Whereas my weekend thinking is "Oh, good, I'm finally home. I'm not doing a damn thing."

Oops. It's a breakdown in international communications! Fortunately, all is saved by the international Language of Emoticons.

But, seriously, AH, I think women respond greatly to an occasional night out on the town with their mates. If you did that once a month, maybe she'd leave you to your business the rest of the time? (At least that was what always worked with my father.)
