AC Stories (discovered)
http://www.fanfiction.net/list.php?categoryid=735
This was an interesting site I discovered that was dedicated to fanfiction for games, etc.
It has some interesting stories on it
Maybe we can recruit some of these taletellers to apolyton

Hmm...
I've been wondering about the lack of authors in AC fiction. Is it because it's a game that is getting less and less exciting every year?
Or is it because people don't bother to use their brains for creativity anymore?
Or is it because people would rather play Civ 3, MMORPGS, online FPS, etc?
I miss Hydro's role playing stories and the long story... I think it was Spartan Chronicles or something like that, with the Proginators overwhelming the humans.
I must be getting old.

I think that the longer time passes, the fewer people will play Alpha Centauri and thus the fewer people will write fan fiction.
We can be glad that Alpha Centauri's audience was more creative than most audiences. At least here in AC-Fiction we had a golden age. Compare with something like Magic: the Gathering, which also has tremendous potential for exploration through fan fiction.
Of course, Alpha Centauri has a different audience than Magic. AC-Fiction is much more sophisticated than most anything the average Magic fan (who is only twelve years old, and who also hasn't ever heard of the inspiration and source material such as Arabian Nights, let alone understands the references, and who also is apparently unable to figure out what a character with "Flying" does without extensive reminder text printed on each card) could produce.
Sorry for the rant

I'm trying to find enough time to work on a piece of SMAC fanfic. One is definitely in the planning but it will take me time, which is one luxury I don't have much of right now.
Just for Crimson Sunrise, I might try to include some Skedar in it. Aim for their head tails!

Thanks.
Maybe we should ask HMB whether the Mauler is more powerful than the Particle Impactor.

Alpha Centauri is jsut getting old
the only reason that civ is still having tales written about it is that it still has sequels being released
it's hard to get people to be passionate about something that only has a small audience.

HMB's eyes tend to lose focus and he starts muttering things like "literal stimulation" and "olfactory amines" and "oratory rousing effects" and "congressional bonding significance" when you mention anything about Perfect Dark to him.

Heh. Good to see a old face, Alinestra.
I wonder.... I've noticed that most game based fanfics are from RPG games and RPG based characters or worlds. The Breath of Fire series, Dragon Warrior series, and Final Fantasy series produced most of the RPG / game based fanfics I've seen.
I hardly see any other "strategy" based game fanfics, or FPS or other themed game fanfics. Must be because people find it cheap n' easy to write about Final Fantasy worlds or Breath of Fire characters.

Perhaps when writing about RPGs you have to do less of the character development. Even something like Final Fantasy II sketches out the characters' personas (personae?) via the gameplay.

What I find funniest are the fanfic porn stories. There was a page my brother forwarded once that had lesbian scenes of Xena Warrior Princess going on and it definitely subscribed to the "so crap it's good" school of literature.

Ok...that's just a little freaky there......
I still think AC is one of the best games out there despite its "outdated-ness". It has the good, bad, and ugly all rolled into one awesome game.
I found my old notebook with a few more AC fiction stories...but I should be working on BAC first.....

Tsk, tsk Franky. Get your arse in gear and have the GHE deal with the UA!
I've seen plenty of porn themed fanfics, and to be honest, it's all junk. I'd rather have a good fanfic with a tangible plot, interesting premise, and good development.
Fanfics all about sex or nudity have no substance, instead, they appeal to sexuality and these single boys or girls who would rather **** off imagining their favoirte characters nude.
Also, porn fanfics doesn't need THAT much intelligence to write, which is a commodity most fanfic writers lack these days. They're either too lazy to REALLY think and write, or they just have no grasp of good literature.

Sex is the one thing humans of all times and places are obsessed with.
I don't go for the porn-type stories either. I tried to write a sex scene once in a story and it failed miserably. I had to burn the pages and wash my eyes.

There was a while when I was a frequenter of White Shadow's porn stories website, before it went all commercial and had you subscribe to it. Some of the writing there was actually very good (and by good I don't mean Shakespeare so much as Dame Barbara Cartland). It looked like the stomping grounds of some professional porn writers at times.
Edit: got her name wrong. D'oh!

Professional Porn?
Thats interesting. What exactly seperates everyday porn stories from professional ones? Less dirty sex, more kissing / dating / romance?
I dunno, but I wouldn't want to read any of that either. To be honest, a few sex scenes or dialogue would be okay, as long as it subscribes to a developing love story or romance.
A entire fanfic revolving about sex, or chapters devoted to different sexual positions, actions, or dialogue just doesn't jive with me. If there's excess sex in a story, I skip ALL these excess sexual scenes.

Professional porn is porn written by professionals, of course.
Like the people who write adult movie scripts.
Have you ever seen the episode of Just Shoot Me where Dennis writes a porn script and wants to film part of it in Jack's office?

I saw "Just Shoot Me" a few times.
Dennis always make me laugh, especially at his desperation with women. Maybe he should try dating Carter, the black dude from "Spin City".
Also, that Nina woman doesn't look 50. She looks 30. I'd kill to have a wife that stays that pretty past 50. Speaking of that, I was shocked when I found out Priscilla Presley was over 50. She still looks like a college girl!

You didn't know about Priscilla Presley, eh? Elvis died like 35-40 years ago, so I guess it makes sense.
Nina's not too bad. Certainly better than Maya.

Now we're talking.
Maya looks like she's 30 when she's likely to be 25'ish. I bet when and if she hits 50, she'd look like Jolly Old Grandma.
Not to mention her attitude.

She'd nag you to death before you could get your bearings.
The other sitcom woman I like is Reggie from Becker. She was also on Deep Space Nine as some sort of alien with strange neck markings.

The actress name is Terry Farrell, who played Jadzia Dax in Deep Space Nine.
I thought Deep Space Nine was the best of the 4 Star Trek series that I've watched. It has a more gritty and realistic feel to it than the "paradise" or "Janeways owns everybody" in the other series.
In fact, I wish more stories or series were like Deep Space Nine.

I agree, I thought Deep Space Nine did a good job of bringing Sisko's tribulations to life.
The Next Generation really went downhill after about season 4. Season 7 is more like an old-school soap opera, what with Worf's relationship with Deanna and his problems with his son and Wesley dropping out of the Academy. Even when Worf's son travelled back in time from the future, they didn't take advantage of it.

Actually I thought there were a few interesting premises in TNG's last few years.
One episode had parallel universes, I think it was with Worf and multiple possible realities. I love the "what if" possibilities.
And the other good episode was the final episode. I liked the future with the super Enterprise-D and the new Starfleet uniforms.
There were a few other episodes I liked, but forgot their names.
