Now granted it had an obvious debt to Barthes, but I felt that the shallowness of the characterisation shed no light whatsoever upon the underlying social commentary that was so entrenched, and indeed so devastatingly effective in the novels. Without Rowling's playful treatment of the dislocation theme, then the film had no conceptual backbone against which to test the relevance of her liminal politic.

You could probably give every kid in the world the whole collection of harry potter books with the money they spend on making one of the movies. It'd be money better spent, i think.

I was thinking a pretty narrow age range... but yeah, now that I think of it I guess not.

Am I the only one that thinks the characters in Harry Potter are a bit shallow? I can't comment on the books, but the movie performances and characters leave a lot to be desired.
|
Ah, that's your problem. Expecting 'depth' in a blockbuster Hollywood movie .
Read the books... all of them (once you pick them up you won't be able to stop, so watch out ).

Only if furries will go away, first.
With a budget like this, the movie had better be good. I don't know how they're going to cram it all into 2.5-3 hours :|

I have hope... from the PoA trailers it seems the new director is better than the old (and he is in general).
