What's the point in icons so insanely large?
|
They're easier to target.
So what if that means you're lazy? Larger-iconed persons are finding that they suddenly have huge chunks of free time from not having to be so precise in their clicks. Whereas you, Asher, must toil away your days, carefully pinpointing your cursor on just the right location.

On the other hand, I have less screen to traverse to access all of my icons.
And since I've been playing FPS games since Wolf3D, I like to think my mouse aim is fairly accurate.
Also note how I line them all up against he edge of the screen -- Fitts' Law.

Ditto. All of the icons on the desktop are accessed by keyboard shortcut for me, they're there for the SO's benefit.

The joys of Human-Computer Interface courses. Some of the profs I have really let loose on OS X on how it chooses to flaunt style over functionality and usability. But, they also bash Windows for lots of usability quirks as well.
But they all admit that Windows is the least evil of all GUIs consumers have access to.

i tried to use objectdock, but it kept messing up with civ. when i moved to the bottom of the screen to scroll the map (where i had object dock), it would pop up. i put it on auto hide, but it still wouldn't leave me alone.

at least you've got a good abreviation. "k."
it sure beats the hell out of 'sb' that people seem to use with me. it'd just one letter shy of "sbd." you know.. silent but deadly.

It's a Boeing concept: BWB (Blended Wing Body). While Airbus in Europe is touting a double-decker aircraft, Boeing was toying with the bwb design for a while. Unfortunately, I believe they've put the project on their back burner. It's unlikely you'll see these in a passenger-plane context. They've been described as "flying movie theaters" since window space is very limited for 800 or so passengers. If such planes are built, they'd probably be cargo planes. I think Boeing has moved on to a more publically-acceptable double-decker design of their own.
This particular image comes from the November 2003 issue of Popular Science magazine, pgs 44-45.
(Flip: Ok, maybe not THAT much shorter... ).

Well, "It's a picture of a plane that doesn't exist...but it's really cool!" didn't really explain the image to my satisfaction.

Speaking of docks, does anyone know how to prevent them from emerging from the sides of the screen when I'm playing a game? Every time I want to have a go on C&C Generals or Deus Ex, I have to quit YzDock (the one you thought had been sued out of existence, foolish Mac users! Bwahahahaha).

i just realized i was using "mobydock", not "objectdock". does objectdock intefere with civ? if you have civ (or any full windowed game for that matter) and you scroll to where the dock is, does it go OVER the game?
