SC4: Rush Hour in Alabama
Well, I got RH delivered today, so I am ready to play. And I thought a blank thread for this was in order.

Just as a reminder, we are populating the region of Huntsville, Alabama.


I believe Tass and MattH are now switched though

Hey, I just played around with one of the regions, and I must say: WOW! The improvements in performance are amazing! The 30 minutes I had to play were SO much more enjoyable, because scrolling wasn't jerky, I didn't have to zoom way out, so I don't see the cars, in order to improve speed, and the highest speed setting, on which I have always played seemed almost... Too fast! Woah.

oh the humiliation of losing your webspace... the upload feature, I forgot it existed. I never thought I'd need to use it.

Ah, but it tells me that it can't upload the file, anyways. the incompetent ****.



Someone hosted an FTP to upload our cities to last time, didn't they? Can we do that again?

Any way, here's some screenies.

Attached is a snap of the region from the bird's view. Looks like I'm the only one not polluting the area. Look at that black water around ADG, and that clean blue around my city. (That would be just to the south of Tass.

Alright, this be the view of my residential area.

I got really tired of grids, and so tried to diversify the streets a little bit. It makes for worse traffic, but actuall improves some things: most importantly, I now leave plenty of gaps, which, when I get the money, I can fill with parks and stuff for the wealthy sims to enjoy.

Here's some industrial area.

The reason it's not polluting as badly as the other cities is because I aimed this little town for the wealthy. And they would like to work in Manufacturing industry as opposed to the Dirty industry. So, I set my dirty industry tax to 15%, and they don't even want to think of my city now. Welcome, manufacturers!

Woah. Just discovered the road query tool which shows you the commute routes. This will help greatly when tracking down those pesky crossed out briefcases.

Also, tried out U-Drive-It... It was fun for like a minute or two when I was driving around my commercial district on a bus. But other than short sightseeing, really doesn't appeal much to me...

Saw a labeled street in Matt's city. How do I make one?

EDIT:

Also, forgot to say something. I connected to ADG and Tass with boulevards. (Or whatever the divided road is called.) Please make sure they emerge on your side when you start your next turn. If they don't, load my city and remake the connections.

I was also checking out the ferries... We could connect navally like that, Tass. I'd be more than happy to export some of that garbage to you. Or I could buy something from you... But from the looks of your budget, you don't need any more money.

Under terraforming tools in the 'Mayor' menu. Hehe don't tell Tassadar .

In some cases, U-Drive-It is the fastest/best way to get hard to reach rewards. For example, just a few train missions and you have the spaceport .

Yeah... What the hell, you can only put it in rectangular areas, and you can't put like trees or flowers in between, 'cause every type of garden has a differently colored grass. Someone needs to come up with better green grass.

Have you tried importing it from within the game? That's how I usually get the city into the game first time.

I haven't had any problem with your file, vovan... although I did have the same problem (I think) with ADG's. Try putting it in the downloads folder instead, Tass.

Well, actually... Could it have something to do with having vs not having the patch? I just updated to version 1.1.618 or whatever, and as will now play my next turn, and post my new city. We'll see if that helps any...

Grimdale, 2010.

Population: 10 811

It's 2005, and Mayor Osweld has big plans for Grimdale. A large development project is planned for the western side of the ridge:




But his plans take a setback, when people inexplicably begin to flee the city. The mayor suspects that it's that eye-sore of a city to the east, known as Tassagrad, that is behind it.



So adjustments are made to the development plan - what was once intended to be a high-class residential area over looking the river is turned into a small industrial complex. With more job prospects available, people start returning to the city and the new neighbourhood begins to grow.



Unfortunetly, this new change in the plan brought on unexpected power demands, and the gas plant is unable to keep up. Wind turbines are errected temporarily untill a site for a new power plant is chosen.



With a loan taken out a new coal plant has been built, and a new development plan has started on the south western peninsula. Although there is some worry about the pollution the new coal plant will cause, it is sure to supply the power needed for a growing Grimdale.



The Western Ridge development plan has been a stunning success, with the population of Grimdale more than doubling since it's completion.

Alright, I've re-saved my latest city file with the patch applied. If you had any problems importing it before, hopefully you won't now.

Yeah, yeah, sorry, I have only one more year to play for the next turn, and I don't have the older version at the five-year mark any more. (I mean, yeah, I could download it, update it, then reload the new one again... But it would be faster to just play that one year. Will be there in like an hour or so.)
