Any way I can tell how advanced my opponent is?
1.15

I just finished a game on Emperor where my opponent had a huge tech lead on me and I was wondering exactly how far behind I actually was. I estimate that I was at least 11 techs behind when I won by domination. Anyone know of utilities or tricks that would let me see how far ahead the AI is?

This is where we need that dedug on demand. I hope it does come in the next patch as they were talking about it.

I would like to see an option after the game is won/lost that allowed you to look at all the map, all the civs as if you were playing them.

Maybe we will see a save game editor some day to look at that stuff.

Obviously, he wasn't advanced enough to thwart your mighty forces!

You might be able to load-up a save from before your victory and sell all your improvements and disband your military to get massive gold and start trying to buy techs from him. That might let you see just how far ahead he was.

Probably the easiest way is to download a trainer and give yourself enough gold to buy all the techs. There probably is a way to switch a save to debug mode in a hex editor, haven't looked into it yet.

Thanks Aeson, that worked. A bit difficult, as everything was in German, but I figured out how to install and use it And the graphics are screwy, had to exit through taskmanager, but hey, whatever.

I was 11 techs behind at the end of the game. Oddly the Dutch went after ironclads rather than, say Music theory. Of course, my navy was what turned the game around, as cavs can easily handle redlined infantries.

Thanks aeson

On a separate note: Witness the argument against deterministic combat!

Indeed.

T-
If you have a second and are curious, download that save and check out how much of a KAI the Dutch were. It was amazing (to me anyway) how much more advanced and developed they were than I, I think I built one wonder (Zeus-through a SGL), they had basically everything else, other than the Great Lib (key moment in the game for me, the capture of said wonder). Obviously the key was holding the largest mass solo and secondly building the great lighthouse.

I'm just grateful that I didn't share a border with them, as their stacks would have annhilated me. I really only won because I knew how to concentrate my fire on one or two cities at a time, not a trickle.

Love the man o' wars now, love 'em.

I'll check it out... in between finishing a screw-around game and starting AU 501 (YAY!!). In my game, the Dutch are also kick-b*tt, except for me of course.
