The (At Least Immediate) Future of ACSR
The at-least-immediate future of Apolyton Civilization Site Radio ( ACSR) is now on the line, to be determined by popular vote of registered forum users as opposed to administrative discretion (i.e. me ). Note the poll above and, after contemplating the options carefully, cast your vote.
I have made the question above -- technically, a "fill in the blank" answer really -- relatively simple and straightfoward. It does not take into account nuances or qualifications and I have done this intentionally. As an administrator I have pre-set the choices you can select from, but I believe that they are reasonable and varied enough for this purpose.
In closing, I would prefer that only those who have actually listened to a complete broadcast of each type vote, but of course I cannot enforce this. That said, I encourage one and all interested in voting in this poll -- and I hope that most you are -- by first following through on my advice. ACSR's homepage is located at http://apolyton.net/misc/radio.

Dan, How long will the voting be open? Will all have the opportunity of listening to both broadcasts before the vote must be placed?

The voting will be open for two weeks. Several examples of both "ACSR Daily" and "ACSR Weekend" broadcats are already available for listening from ACSR's homepage.

Keep doing it if you like doing it. Don't let it become a job. Life is too short. You'll have enough jobs before you have run the course.

This is your fansite, you should manage it the way you like.
As for me, I have never really listened to ACSR, so I don't really care either way (it's like a 'Poly feature I don't use). I wouldn't want you to drop it if you still enjoy preparing a daily ACSR, but I'd have no problem if you decided you wanted to drop it.

Dan,
I used to listen quite often, now I don't do so quite as often anymore, due to time constraints. Like NYE points out, you should continue with this if you enjoy doing it. I will continue to listen (at least part of the time) if you continue to broadcast, but won't terribly miss it if you discontinue the service. It's a nice feature, but certainly not one I can't live without.
(Voted for the first option)

I also concur, agreeing with Locutus and Gramphos. I listen occasionally, but not always.
If you feel like you have the time and desire to continue, keep doing it as you do now. If you feel it's becoming a job for you, drop it.

I don't listen to ACSR (well, I only have a few times in the past), but I have to agree with the above.
If you don't have the time or the will to continue, drop it. If you like doing it, go for it.
I voted for the "ACSR Weekend"-only option, only because I think the daily ACSR news items are unnecessarily cluttering up the miscellaneous news section and news drop-down list.

I appreciate the comments like the one above which, at least so far, reflects a general consensus I am seeing in the responses. I enjoy the end result of ACSR broadcasts still, but during especially busy "offline" periods making the time to record them can get a little hectic.
As a result, I am attempting to gauge what interest if any exists for the feature and how deep that interest runs. I don't want to be starting and stopping the service frequently as that is frustrating on different levels for all involved. Over the years I have gotten the impression that ACSR is a feature that receives courteous accolades with a small audience of occasional listeners. From what I have seen of the discussion and voting so far, my perception is an accurate one.
I personally revel in the uniqueness of ACSR's service to the Civilization community, but for it to continue on in some fashion I feel I need a mandate from a sample of Apolyton's visitor base. But have no fear. The mighty dictator has not fallen completely for the sweet song of democracy...

i'll listen to the WE edition rarely. it'd be more intresting if it was a weekly thing, as opposed to the daily. unless we started to play music as well.

After reviewing some daily and weekend broadcasts I am of the opinion that the type of material covered could be done with just a weekend broadcast. Perhaps a "special" daily if events warrant.
I do have to say that I was quite impressed with the type of information covered. Should the broadcasts continue, they have found another listener.

I've never listened so I didn't vote, but a continuing service with a less frequent broadcast looks like a reasonable response.

The electorate has spoken; thank you to all who voted and commented on this matter. Although no majority opinion has been realized, there is a strong minority opinion that has come out on top.
As of March 1st, 2004, "ACSR Daily" will cease production. "ACSR Weekend" shows will continue to be put together, but they will be renamed "ACSR Weekly" and -- based on some of the comments above -- will encompass seven days' worth of content as opposed to just two.
Due to the extended length of these broadcasts, at least in comparison to the past, anticipate some additional changes to the structure of the show. Stay tuned.
