Play styles of the other teams
I know that some of the more experienced players here (esp. those that MP) know this already, but I would like to see an all encompassing thread of this: How do the other teams play? What is there city build plan, agressiveness, tech/ trade plans?
I know that 'Poly likes to use REX, GCA is pretty unscrupulous, and CFC is pretty honorable, but what else? What do we know about how the other teams will play?

Well if the GWT team is roughly the same as the current ISDG team then we will not get much info out of them. They are very secretive about what they do. If anything carries over then there is a possibility of some slight bad blood between our teams.
The CGN team isn't in our first game, but they seem to have a similar play style to Apolyton (being 'Poly refugees and all) as well as being more open to diplomacy etc. than GWT.
I know nothing about the other teams.

(edited with more info)
Any information/intelligence on these opponents would be very helpful! Where do the teams come from, who are their more prominent members, what are their 'natural' play styles, etc. ?
I suppose every civ gets their 1st choice Civ
--------------------------------------
Game 2
These are the teams who are probably in our game:
PAL - CDG - Bachrachos - Poly - GWT
The People's Army of the Ladder (PAL) - Maya: Jav Thrower
BFM: Ladder Team of Fried-Psitalon, who is also an Apolyton member. He tries to 'work something out' with us.
Donegeal: Hmmm... a 30 shield Bowman. Not sure what to make of this. I don't think tey will go on the offensive with a 2 attack, 1 move unit, at least not against us. I think they will build just a few Jav to use on barbs to get workers. Their primary military production will be warriors to upgrade to Swords. We must watch any known Iron supply they have closely (for repeated pilliaging).
German Webring Team (GWT) - China: Riders
BFM: Team from the German Webring Civilization Site. Very clever and well-organized team. Possibly aggressive. Were in the first multi-player Apolyton Demo Game, and are one of the big powers in the Inter Site Demo Game.
Donegeal: Will try the GoW plan. Build lots of horse. Build Leo's. Upgrade to Riders and Rush. If we attack them (or anybody else for that matter) they will see a war similar to what we have experinced with CGA in the ISDG (probably similar "luck" as well).
Rhothaerill: Well if the GWT team is roughly the same as the current ISDG team then we will not get much info out of them. They are very secretive about what they do. If anything carries over then there is a possibility of some slight bad blood between our teams.
CDG - Vikings: Bezerkers
BFM: Were knocked out of the ISDG, especially by GCA. GhengisFarb (Apolyton member, and now on our team) was on their team.
Donegeal: We will see spears and archers from these guys. They will go for the Leo's path to upgrade archers to bezerkers and spear to pike to defend them. If we come accross these guys, it might be wise to try to take them out with Sword/Hop or Archer/Hop stacks if Iron is unavailable. We are pretty safe from these guys (they will be looking to make friends with us).
GhenhisFarb: Micaleus Rex, their leader, is militant, probably one of the better players but usually not the leader of the group. He's the one that tends to go by the seat of his pants approach. Not much on build up and sending in large attack groups. CDG has a very different play style than us, and can be manipulated if properly handled.
Bachrachos - Sumeria: Enkidu Warriors
Donegeal: BatEnkidus, and lots of them. Avoid attacking this team. With 10 shield spearmen, they can quickly have a large defensive force that would be economicly difficult to defeat (ie: the shield cost of units used to take on these guys would be FAR greater than it would cost them to defend against us). Think about this: 2 Sword = 60 shields. 60 shields = 3 Enkidu Warriors and 1 Sword. Now would you attack a city that was defended by 3 spear and a sword with just 2 sword?
-----------
Game 1
The other teams are in Game 1:
CFC - GCA - CDZ - CGN - C3Brazil
Civilization Gaming Network (CGN) - Celts: Gallic Swordsmen
Rhothaerill: The CGN team isn't in our first game, but they seem to have a similar play style to Apolyton (being 'Poly refugees and all) as well as being more open to diplomacy etc. than GWT.
Civilization Fanatics Center (CFC) - Maya: Jav Thrower
Vander: Well, I've been on CFC for a while, and here are my impressions of their style:
- First of all, they like 'Poly. (Prob because you guys saved our asses from GCA in the other ISDG)
- They'll be gunning to take out GCA in their game
- They tend to build cities with four square spacing (Maximum growth/ size)
- Big on Role Play/ Diplomacy
... (CDZ) - Iroquois: ...
... (GCA) - Vikings: Bezerkers
C3 Brazil (C3B) - ?: ...

Do we know who is on the CDG team? How about their leader?
Typically they don't think things through very well. More of a gut reaction team.

Nice. I think we need to look strongly on early archer/sword rushes against CDG and GWT. If neither presents themselves, PAL will make an excelent target. However, they will (if played right) have lots of slave workers and thus a very good industrial base to support their 30shield archers. In single player mode, they are fun (almost as fun as the zulu) and effective.

I didn't quite get that remark. Forgive me - I'm not a native English speaker. What do you mean by it?

He is trying to be funny.
Sylvan Learning Centers are a private national (USA)tutoring company, that helps your children learn if they are doing bad in school.

Emphasis on the word "trying".
Sylvan learning centers are used to teach techniques to individuals (not just children) that wish to improve their skills in a particular area or ability.

Would agree strongly that Sumerians aren't a good choice to attack with their half priced Spear Men.
But note that Eniku Warriors upgrade to Pike Men and they can't build normal warriors and so each Swordmen they build they would have to spend the full time in shields, so they aren't likely to try that approach. I anticipate that if they are highly agressive, they'll send stacks of archers protected by eniku warriors and if they aren't highly agressive the game might well end peacefully since they have an excelent UU for just trying to survive to be in the top 3.
