Looking for a guinea pig
Alright, I'm going to try to do the courseware for the next AU game - no, don't freak out, I'm just getting a head start.
I'm sure there will be a post-AU501 discussion of the mod, what worked, what didn't, what is almost there, what new changes are needed, etc. , so don't feel rushed. There's lots of time before the next one.
However, since this would be my first map/course, I'm gonna need a volunteer to play the first 2-3 thousand years and give me feedback - too easy, too hard, whatever. I'd like someone who mostly plays Monarch level confidently and who doesn't mind having a little inside information. If it's someone who doesn't really like to play the courses but is familiar with our goals, that would be groovy too.
Any volunteers?
Again, do not freak out if you are not done with 501. I am not anywhere near ready to announce, let alone release, the next course. I am merely getting a head start since this is my first real foray into the editor and scenario creation. Do not panic.

Ducki: I'm willing to be your guinea pig, depending on when you need the game tried out. I'm off work until next Wednesday so I've got plenty of time until then.

Wow!
That was fast.
Ducki, if for any reason, you would like a player just getting used to monarch, I'm happy to volunteer as well
...and just out of curiosity, what sort of theme are you going for?

I don't want to steal attention from 501, as it's a fantastic game and deserves the normal post-game attention. I just want to get my... er, ducks in a row, so to speak.

Just bear in mind that we want rubber, oil, saltpeter, iron, coal, and uranium all to be near the capital city.

Yeah, I tried to put the starting location on a hill with iron and coal under it, horses and saltpeter next to it, three rivers, 4 grassland cows and one of each luxury, but I can't figure out how to stack resources, so I just put them all on an island and you guys can just race the AIs for all the resources. I call it AU502: Capture the World.

Awesome idea! Everyone starts on the continents, but ALL the resources are on islands where NO ONE starts (except those raging barbarians)!

Or everyone starts on a tiny island and all resources are on continents. Hehe, I'll have to remember those for the future.

Ducki do it anyway you want, just don't make it a large map or worse a huge one.

I agree - standard map, please! The waiting time between turns was quite annoying in AU 501 from the industrial age onward.

Welcome! Just don't feel like you have to wait for the next game. The way RL has been going for me lately, you could start NOW and probably finish before I do!!!

Thriller - the best answer I can give is:
Since we still have folks playing 501 and we still need to look at the mod in light of the DARs and post-game analysis and likely have a second round of AU Panel votes on outstanding issues, I'll stand by the following...

That said, since this is my first map/mod/course/whatever, I plan on casting it more in the vein of AU Lite or Mini AU and it'll be partially a pseudo-revisitation of an older theme mixed with a "survey" of something new in Conquests.
But seriously, let's get back to discussing 501 and further changes/tweaks to the mod - that, and letting those that are still taking the course finish up and give their viewpoints in the post-game thread.
I fully understand the desire to get another course under way, but let's finish 501 and tie up the loose ends on the mod first.

Just because I thought Dominae took the idea of making resources hard to come by (at least for those not inclined to seek out and settle distant lands aggressively) a bit overboard doesn't mean I want scenario designers to go to the opposite extreme.

Somehow I knew you would say that.....serves me right for asking!!!
Anyway, yes I agree. Only too happy to keep discussing 501 and see what recommendations come of it

Well, without giving anything away, I think I can safely say that you are all in for a treat with the next AU course. I'm looking forward to reading the AARs.
