So, you've gone from calling me a moron to telling me to f@ck off. Exactly who is displaying unwarranted hostility?

I like the way you've admitted it was a 'simple' mistake, but still, no apology for the term 'moron'.

And now you have to apologize to Chemical Ollie too- after all, he was only addressing the issue of your ignorance or presumption- which led you down this path of vituperation and invective.

None so blind as those that will not see, eh, Fez?

Irrelevant.

Of course the licence fee is a tax. If one does exist (and there could be economic justification for it I'm sure), then it surely would be fairer to split the proceeds across stations.
Channel 4 also receives state funding. As far as the others go? I notice you're ignoring the charter criteria...

I don't remember that. I suppose that makes me one of the plebs that would prefer to see programs created that the people want (it is a public service after all Laz?), rather than a few programs for the intellectual snobbery of a few.
I seem to recall the BBC produces a show that has been top-rated or second rated for most of the last 18 years. How much populism do you want?

"How much populism do you want?"

If populism is your spin-word for producing programs that the public wants, then surely more than 3 lots of 30 minutes a week.

"its cost of production is covered by ITV's advertising revenuess. Why would you want to pay more for it when the cost is already covered?"

Because I don't think it is fair or efficient that the gullible pay for the entertainment of a nation.

Fez doesn't have to apologize. He's excused by his young age. And his nick means something funny in Swedish.

Stew, the additional costs on everyday household purchases alone to pay for advertising costs far outweigh anything you will ever pay for a TV license.

Exactly! My proposal does away with advertising. Pay-per-view, pay for quality.

High quality, high cost programs could be provided if customers and the market will bear them.

Obtaining revenue by proxy (advertising) is a very poor alternative.

ITV have been producing TV programmes for nearly 50 years and they've all been crap. QED.

Being somewhat South of the Bristol to King's Lynn Gap, I'll safely assume you haven't heard of Coronation Street.

That ITV produce quality programs. Oh ****, I just realised, Laz is a snob, and hence unworthy of such drivel as CS - we need more unwatchable and tedious history programs for his crass history "series".

According to upmystreet.com, ITV viewing is a matter of class (or lack of it), which may be why some find it objectionable ..

As for the BBC, well, I find it dumbed down at times, BBC World (much loved in India) can be a little repetative (they love re-showing hard talk all the time), but Radio 4 is brilliant, especially its science coverage.

I can't imagine the BBC will break up, I think a few people have suggested some of the structural changes, but it certainly will not be broken up.

For me, the BBC needs to aim at a viewer with a bit more intellegence than it does, especially on reporting on Science and Technology, which I find dismal at best on its TV channels.

As for being bias .. well, some of its reporters certainly are, but surely we are all intellegent enough to spot it, and discount it .. arn't we ??

As for the similarities between Sky and Fox, its interesting, because Star is India's murdoch ran enterprise, and its so over the top nationalistic, like fox, but I think sky isn't so jingoistic as either Fox or Star .

Probably because Glonkie asked for them.

Does anyone have the link to the thread where Fez took the article from the Onion seriously?

He asked me to. I did have the ICQ transcripts on my old 40GB hard-drive (which is now kaput). And I don't do stupid things like that anymore.

Agathon: Don't be a moron.

Anyways, I got my name changed back. That fiasco is over.
