================================================
Less than twenty escape pods were able to launch from the ship. You guess that all of them or majority successfully landed on the planet's surface. You know that somewhere in other parts of the globe other ship's officers are now establishing outposts and actual colonization of the planet has begun. The "unity" sensors were able to gather some information on the planet Chiron and databanks in escape pods were updated before their launch. Summarizing, surface of the planet is in little less than 50% covered by water. Deep oceans are scarce and majority of hydrosphere consists of seas. There is vegetation on the planet, and equatorial regions are quite abundant in it. Volcanic activity was detected as high on northern hemisphere. Dense cloud cover ensures very moist atmosphere, thus 'greenlands' and marsh terrain can be found on Chiron.
Only several days after the planetfall, you watch on the sky last hours of "Unity" spaceship. After serving you and other 'refugees' of Earth for so many years, at the end of its journey the ship desintegrates in flames falling onto the planet's surface. The agony last for several hours, and leaves feeling of helplessness among survivors.
The next day in the morning, you are approached by a newly appointed officer of a scouting unit.
"Just an idea, that we may recover the remnants of the ship that were not completely destroyed on descent. They may be very valuable and provide so much needed resources" he says.
"Yes, indeed, I will think about it" you answer. However, how easy or difficult it will be to locate the place where the ship fell, you have no idea now. You know at least approximate location of the crash site...
-------------------------------------------------
* "U.N.S. "Unity" Wreckage is 'artificially' created addition to this SMAC game. I will not reveal at this moment what exactly you gonna find there, but you might like the place. I will have to watch the play, so occasionally i am going to ask you for a game save file. Since observing the "Unity" fall you may roughly estimate where it crashed. I will email to each player separately that information. Please guard it, and do not reveal to other players before you make contact in game. This information on the wreckage location will be of course different for each of you.

2101 to Hive
A big thanks to mart7x5. This looks like a great game.
Dense cloudcover is a cool idea. I've never tried it before. We're playing tech stagnation too so this will be different.
Also, do I understand correctly that do or die is off so they'll still be 7 factions around at the end?
Good luck to one and all.

Not necessarily there will be 7 factions at the end of the game. As far as I know, game restarts faction only if there is a suitable place for it. After some time of playing defeated faction vanishes and do not reappear.
It makes a game a bit more interesting in my opinion. There was no strong indication how players felt about it so i put in "Do or Die: NO". Eliminating a faction early in the game thus is not so excellent option, also you might want to keep an AI player "at bay" rather than allowing to escape in a pod early in the game..... just different strategy. And last - i hope you will not use this option - if anyone of the human players gets killed, but liked the game, still have chances...

Sorry to all, my wife caught my little girl's hand in the dishwasher and I spent all weekend, after doing the emergency room bit - mashed and bloody, nothing broken - with a very fussy uncomfortable little tyke. Mommy is now back, she had a grant writing workshop to go to, so Monday I should get my games played. Again, apologies.

No need to restart - turn sent. Little girl is now stable, caught virus at hospital, really nasty bug was not drinking and had diarrhea - forced fluids hourly, daddy not popular but she is okay. Will now be able to do 24 hour or less turn around. Apologies all. Thank the lord for family leave.

Turn to Net warrior
I misspelled the turn name (wrote 2105 instead of 2104), hope NetWarrior will understand.
