Yeah, that was the joke. Obviously too subtle for some people.

Well in that case you should have posted something that showed you got the joke without mentioning the joke explicitly. You have much to learn.

How should I otherwise have posted it? I thought my comment showed it...

It did, but mentioned it explicitly.
Anyone, Buck, I think we need more clues if we are going to proceed here.

#5: Except for the interfering deity there are also interfering aliens. They've placed out crystals that in various ways accelerate the biological process, either explicitly changing its course or adding tools for the players to change it. Much of the game is spent dealing with the problems the crystals are causing in the world. If you haven't guessed there's a distinct new age undertone to the game.

This sounds like that kids' game where you have different aliens and have to grow more, adapting them and the various types to your surroundings.
But that's far too recent....
What format was it on again please?

EVO: something about Eden. (is this close enough? It's hunt for Eden or something like that)
SimEarth?

I vaguely remember an ecowarrior game for the SNES. I hope that's not it since I can't remember the name!

It is SimEarth! Well done.
Sorry, I mean, it is EVO: Search for Eden! Well done. I also have to admire the "Something about Eve" pun.

I knew it was Sim Earth! I was sure of it. Good job I managed to get my guess in first.
I'll think of another one and post it later this afternoon.
