Clue #3: In fact, you've also created the very world you are in. It's pulled you in and you're trying to escape from it.

Right. I'd do that, except the two games that came to mind, I couldn't come up with good clues for.

With guessing comes the responsibility to set the next game if you are correct. No excuses will be accepted.

Meh, what the hell.
Clue 1) VERY late (as in, 2-3 years after the system was more or less dead) 2nd-generation system game, action-ish genre. (Basically a platformer.)

Right.
Clue 2) Was part of a very long series of games. (In fact, it was released after other games in that series were released onto more advanced platforms.)

Alas, no. Wrong series.
Clue 3) You can play as either of two characters. One of the two is the traditional hero of the series; the other appeared as a villain in previous games.

Nope.
Clue 4) A previous game in this series has already been guessed. (For the sake of reference: the list)
Edit: Come to think of it, I probably shouldn't have posted a game THIS recent.

(Yeah, I should have realized that this game would be too obscure... I should have just done Ogre Battle instead. )
