Do we need a topped linkthread?
This Is Special Acta Binaria News Flash
This is Tom Breakaw reporting live from the Zocalo, the main square of Apolyton Prime
Questions were raised last night when in ABC weekly program, "Lets make it more efficient!" a group of prominent cyborgs came public with their observations of strange cumulative inefficiency considering CyCon forums.
In their robust time series analysis using X-ARIMA models they had discovered that not all inportant threads can be topped. This came as a shock since our IAF had already made suggestion about a "superthread"- a thread, that would be a topped thread containing links to all important non-topped threads, his suggestion had then been dismissed. This is viewed by many as the right decision at the time since the faction was lot smaller etc.
Since those days though, our faction has undergone a major popboom, conquered new lands(seas) and united with PUT. This has prompted new demands about the necessity of a linkthread described earlier.
We have here with us some leading cyborgs. Thank you IAF Mani alpha-3 for your time with us, you must be very busy.
- Thank you for asking. Tom, as you know I have been very busy with all my duties and numerous tasks I have been doing because some other people have been away. But I always try to spare my time to comment on important topics like this. Do you have something specific you want to know?
Well, our audience must very intrested to know if you are planning to make this kind of thread if its given a green light by the people.
-I can do it as well as anyone else. Its not important who does it. As long as its done.
Wise words there from our IAF. Thank you for your time.
-Thank you Tom.
We also have other members of the group here with us today. Welcome to the show Obstructor omicron-9. You are a part of this group who released these stunning results about "undercover inefficiency" as you put it. What do you feel should be done?
- Well, I think we need a superthread like that. What Mani Alpha 3 had proposed earlier sounds like a great idea. There are numerous advantages with this kind of new technology, for example its easier to orientate and...
Thank you Obstructor. You are also the...leading figure in our official news agency 3-D. Last night a new edition was released by you. We have heard numerous inquiries about your announcement of merging with the CNN,BBC and even with our channel, the ABC. Our president Kassad omicron-9 has publicly dismissed any news of a hijack by you. How do you comment on this?
- No comments, I will make official comment on that later.
Thank you Obstructor omicron-9.
ABC News was given the task of polling about this subject by our IAF Mani Alpha-3. So we are asking for the audience to press F1 for yes and F2 for no I you either want to have a linkthread or not.
And again, the question is: Do we need a topped thread containing links to many important non-topped threads?
Please vote now, follow the instructions on your screen, visor or 4-D helmet

A Directory? Could be a good idea.... Only thing is we need a snappy name for it.

I'm all for it, but I think keeping Turn Reports, Orders, Prime Functions Office and possibly Government threads topped too. They need to be foremost. It will still reduce it to 5 topped threads though

Lessee.... there's a Planetary Archive in the main forum, so how about...
The Network Node or Network Hub?
Or just the Planetary Datalinks?

Network node it is Lauri: You want the job of administrating it? If so, feel free to do it and I'll top it. That thread is *not* to be posted in by anyone, just edited by Lauri to keep it up to date

I'm in favour. Drogue's list of threads to keep topped sounds good. Though I'm starting to wonder what's the point of an Orders thread if no official posted in it for a month...

AFAIK this directory wouldn't contain all government polls as the ACDG1 directory did. It would just contain a fixed number of important threads such as the registration thread, X Affairs Function thread, base name thread etc... to limit the number of threads we need to top. So once the directory is made, I don't think it will need much updating.

The Network Node looks great!
One suggestion: how about including the Base Name Suggestion Thread?

Voted, just to let you guys now that newcomers participate as well
At least no *bumps* are needed now to let members find important threads.

Something that has helped in the past - create a new thread for posting suggestions for additions/changes to the Network Node, and that way if there is something to add/change we can post there instead of sullying the nice Network Node thread itself. Also, a link from the Network Node to the suggestions thread is nice!

Btw, how about detopping the Registration thread? I only look at it a couple times per month, when there's a new member or so. I guess the same counts for everyone else, as the thread only got 368 views in some nine months. Putting it in the network node should be sufficient IMHO, as long as we mention to every new member the existence of that thread.

Sounds like a plan, will do Was tempted to, but now it has a request, seems like a good idea

Lauri: I'd leave the links to polls, it has enough in it already

Lauri, a suggestion. With the new government organisation, I posted 2 new threads. Is it possible to include them in the link list?
