maybe $5 a month? With perhaps 2000 active participants, what is that, 10k a month? though of course, what happens to lurkers? Of course, if real money comes in, Markos might be able to get a better server.

perhaps we've not said it enough times: people will always be able to use apolyton for free
we are discussing giving the option to pay for ad-free browsing and possibly other services

Well, since this is a business decision on your part, Mark, you'll need to set the price. I think we all want this to be a good deal for you, too. I'm probably as addicted to this site as much as to Civ after all.
Thanks for the poll. This should give you some idea of the needed price to make this a go.

Voted "yes if the price is right", but that mainly concerns international transaction fees. I don't feel like giving to the bank as much money as I give to 'Poly. If there is a donation in Euros, I'll see no problem with paying 5€ a month

Yes, if the price is right. I'd be willing to pay a once-a-year fee.

Would Staff members get a discount
But seriously... just tell me how much and how often and I will give you a credit card number
Oh... and a once a year fee makes more sense than billing more often for a shorter time frame.

I'd base it on what an average poster generates in income for the site.

through paypal and a credit card you would not be billed more.
eitherway, paypal allows payments in US$ and Euros at the same time

Since I'm still a student without a job, I cannot answer anything but "No". Perhaps in a few years...

I wouldn't mind paying some money from time to time, don't care if it gets ad-free or not though...
... there's just one problem: I have yet to meet a dane who can use paypal...

Maybe because the banks in Denmark for some reason don't have that activation code you need to activate the paypal account... I have asked around, but nobody I know has been able to get that code...
I have even had contact with paypal several times, but they always gives me the same answer: "goto out website, and you'll see..." Thanks, that helps much, when I've already done this about 10-20 times...

And I've even got $25 on my account (Someone donated to me), but it's even impossible to donate this money without having activated my CC

I am willing to pony up some cash to help the site. If it is just to get specail treatment, (no ads) I would only be interested in getting better and more reliable service. I am willing to pay for that.

perhaps we'll add the ability to give apolyton subscriptions as gifts for people who want to spend that kind of money
you'll be popular!

Though I'm only a poor college student with a limited budget, I'd gladly pay to support Apolyton, regardless of any possible benefits
(But I don't have a credit card --> college remember?  )

Can't some-else do the donation on your behalf, and then you transfer the money to that person direcrly?
