Preferred/ Shunned Governments
Hi All,
Just a couple of questions.
1. The Conquests Manual lists the new Civs with preferred and shunned government types. I have been playing as the Celts (great civ!) and went directly from despotism to democracy to avoid the shunned republic. On my next game I briefly tried republic and it did not seem to make much of a difference at all. Can someone tell me what the disadvantage of using a shunned or preferred government type is?
2. How many posts do I have to make before I graduate from the laughably puny "settler" rank. (First post- I love this game.)
Thank you

1. As far as I know the 'shunned government' only affects the relations of AI civs if you are in that government that they shun. So if you were playing against the Celts and you were in republic then they wouldn't like you as much.
2. 30.

This has very little effect in the game, so I wouldn't worry about skipping the shunned government. It won't make any difference in your production or anything like that, nor does it even stop the AI from using that form of government. As was already mentioned, it only affects the relationships between civs.

It won't matter. Apolyton automatically assigns Settler status to all Red Sox fans.

Funny, maybe those Boston fans should get a bonus. Call it the Babe Ruth factor.

Thanks, All
Alexman, you're not a yankees fan, surely. Being a yankees fan is like playing on "settler"- too easy.
Being a Sox fan is the "Sid" level of the sports world.

Re: Re: Preferred/ Shunned Governments
It might also be a (small) factor in how much you can buy / sell techs from an AI in addition to the AI somewhat more likely to declare war on you if your running their "shunned" govt and somewhat less likely if your running their "prefered" govt. It's still minor though compared to military strength.

Yeah, I have to say that the Shunned/Preferred Govs. is ONE change I'd like to see should they release another XP-i.e. make it MUCH more relevent, like your people operate BETTER under preferred Gov, and Worse under Shunned. AI's are MUCH less well disposed towards you if you are operating under their 'Shunned Gov' type, and that the AI will 'beeline' for their Preferred Gov tech, and avoid their 'shunned' gov tech (though this last point can be achieved via the use of 'flavours'!)
On a final note, I think there should be a SCALE of Preferred/Shunned Gov types, from say +5 (most preferred) to -5 (most shunned) to get a broader range of reactions!
Yours,
The_Aussie_Lurker.
