I think Iron working -> Wheel -> warrior code -> HBR is best, a straight shot for all the important military techs of the ancient age. This will be a war-torn game, and the better and earlier we're prepared, the greater our chances.

My suggestion for first tech is Pottery.
And I agree to the suggestion that we move our worker on the cows, then take a shot. Probably settle where we are.

Pottery is very nice, but both the Maya and Sumeria start with it. We should be able to trade for it rather than research it.

Iron Working. Pottery can be our second tech if we haven't met someone with it by then.

How do you guys tell what kinds of resources are underneath the darkness? From Uber's screenshot, I cannot see Wines, no matter how hard I strain my eyes...

Another (probably silly) question: why is it 3950BC in OctX's screenshot?

Whoa! Just read the "Where Do We Settle?" thread...how did you guys see the Tobacco?
I'm just wondering if you're seeing it normally, or if you're using enchanced graphics mods to see them. Just curious, not passing judgement or anything (yeah right, I hear many of you mutter under your breaths).

The tobacco was discovered because the original screenshots came from Uber's computer. His mod shows a yellow dot over bonus trade and we noticed the dot on that grasslands (tobacco) tile and came to that conclusion in chat, as it also didn't show as a luxury.

What a great starting position! Except that... there is no jungle.
I request a restart with jungle!

Hee hee.
My comment in chat was that because we're not starting the game with jungle, we're just going to have to conquer someone who does.
