Here's some more free MMORPGs.

(I haven't actually tried any of them, I'm just copying them from a thread at somethingawful)

-Ashen Empires (free until at least March 2004): http://ashenempires.com
-Fairyland (like Ragnarok): http://www.fairyland.com.my/
-Adventure Quest (try it, requires Flash 6): http://www.battleon.com/
-Priston Tale (Asian RPG): http://www.pristontale.com/
-PlaneShift (very nice graphics): http://www.planeshift.it/
-Dark Eden (now doesn't require a Korean ID): http://www.darkeden.com/en/
-Faldon (small scale MMO): http://www.illusorystudios.com/
-Dransik Classic (may be free, not sure): http://www.dransik.com/classic
-Mu Online (looks like Diablo 2): http://www.muonline.com/
-Build Your Own Net Dream (complicated name for a multiplayer game builder): http://www.byond.com/
-Fung-Wan (or something, it's Chinese): http://fwo.edenii.com/

If rabbits are containers, then how much money can you get from selling regurgitated carrots?

Mmorpg.com lists all known MMORPGs and has all sorts of info on them including player ratings.

Which ones appeal to you will depend on what you enjoy. Some are all about killing other players, others are more about exploring, getting cool gear, crafting or epic questing.

The free MMOGs are at the lower end of the quality scale, of course. If the game needs many servers per game world and massive bandwidth it don't come free

There's also Project Entropai.
Nice graphics, but difficult to get started, you need someone to give you some credits ingame, or "donate" money to get ingame credits.

You need a gun and ammo to start earning some money, i got a gun for free from someone, but no money for ammo...haven't "played" in months now since i couldn't get started...

Im surprised that Final Fantasy XI hasn't been mentioned yet. I've tried out a few other MMORPG's, but this is the first one I've really gotten into. Very, very fun. I'm still in the month trial period, but I'll definately pay the ~10.00 a month to play it.

That's why it's called Evercrack among certain circles.

I've read tons of stories where people died or committed suicide or whatnot due to that game. I'll never forget one story in which a man was playing and a baby was crying. He didn't want to focus on the baby so he put the baby in a closet to muffle the noise. Sure enough the noise stopped. Eventually after a long while, the mother came home and after what I'm sure wasn't a pretty scene, she opened the closet to find the baby dead. Apparently the baby was crying so hard that his ribs broke and punctured his organs.

Some stories are just absurd, but there's no reason to expect gaming to be free of obsessive personalities any more than other activities.

I played Shattered Galaxies, a free MMRTS.

But I got tired of it after about 4 months... allthough it was quite addictive.

Paying members can get better weapons and more experience points.

What a dumb, and obviously untrue story.

Reminds me of when I was in church, they said people commited suicide after losing in Dungeons and Dragons. An obvious sign of complete ignorance as to what Dungeons and Dragons was and is.

It still was when I stopped playing about 4 months ago.

I didn't like the POC victory system.

well I have read zero. I have read stories where people sell castles in the game for thousands of dollars and such... I am positive there are not "tons" of them.
