Would I be able to play other PBEMs with regular ini file? Or would I have to tinker with it every time?

You can play them, but the graphics would look the same as with our PBEM.
The easiest solution is:
- Make a folder with the name of our PBEM
- Copy the ini file from our PBEM in it
- Make a folder with the name 'original inifile' or something
- Copy the original ini file in it.
And every time you want to play a turn of our PBEM, you copy the file from the PBEM ini in the alpha centauri root, and after the turn copy the original ini back in it.
And you could story our alphax.txt file and the original alphax.txt file in those folders as well.
Those are the only 2 files that need to be used. (as far as I know, perhaps Rubin wishes to elaborate?)

I think the tinkering would be required often, it is just matter of getting used to it, and it can be done quite fast actually - maybe direct link to "alphacentauri.ini" on your desktop - then just write: "atlants" and save and that is it....
when returning to "old" state just type the name of the faction before
=============
I'm a bit busy for a couple more hours, then I will post:
1) files
2) "manual" for installation - step by step what to do in order to play the game
3) story.......
Atlants are very interesting faction, i think you will enjoy it, i hope you will find the arrangement of factions appropriate - just place stress on roleplaying here.
The graphics issue stopped us for these over two days, but when playing you will understand why the graphics is important in this scenario...

It's no problem - I'm committed to this PBEM and will play to the end .
I just wanted to make sure I can get it to work and don't mess up other games.
As for roleplaying, do you want us to post narrative everytime we finish a turn? I don't mind - roleplaying sounds like a fun thing to do.

Pretty much. Not really every turn, but if your faction does something big feel free (ie build a secret project, make a huge technological breakthrough)I don't want to mak
I also meant it by acting how your faction would act. No gaian, for example, would create boreholes. The Peacekeepers would attempt to maintain the peace. The pirates might charge a fee for any craft passing through their territory, since ships in their area are prone to "accidents". You get the idea.

I would like to play in this role play. Is there any place for humans with chips in their heads in this PBEM? (consciousness). Or even peacekeepers?
