I too like this location.
We have some good stuff to build with, and we do not loose a turn moving.

what does right away matter? culture expands in 10 turns. how much are we actually going to use in that time?

Here. All those lovely resources will be available in the culture-expanded radius, and we can get to work immediately.
Also, if those are wines, we'll remove them from the culture-expanded radius by moving east, making it harder to secure the happiness they can bring. (And wines would effectively make it a bonus grass as production goes.)

I agree we should settle where we are. It has a few excellent tiles around it and even more when the culture expands in 10 turns. We likely won't be using too much more than the cattle tile for a while. Plus there are several forests around for chopping a quick granary!!

Too many good points in favor of staying.
1) Keep the wines in our city radius.
2) We'll have the other bonus tiles in 10 turns. Our growth will be in either 10 turns, or possibly 8 if we irrigate those cattle (a wise move). Even so, we'd only have 2 turns of "non-bonus" land to work, and we can pick a forest by a river for that.
3) Why waste a turn? This spot looks just fine.

Right where he is happens to be fine, but since we can't see what's even a few tiles away, it's hard to know for sure.
Build where we are.

I voted 'there'. It is the low risk move.
Trying to keep in mind that we do not need to win this one, we need only outlast 1 or 2 others (2, is it?).

There is a little more to it.
If we move, we'll be lagging behind in culture for a long time compared to the teams that settle immediately.
This would not necessarily be a bad thing, if we were playing with 8 teams. In that case, our capital would not show up in the Top-5 City list, hiding possibly dangerous information.
However, since we are with 5 teams, we'll join that list anyway.

edit: as I haven't played C3C much, please enlighten me: what do Sugar and Tobacco do?

Tobacco: +1 trade bonus
Sugar: +1 food bonus, +1 trade bonus
Tobacco is only found on grassland tiles and sugar is only found on plains tiles. Thus tobacco grasslands are naturally 2 food, 0 shields, 1 trade (plus any river bonus or tile improvement bonuses). Sugar is thus naturally 2 food, 1 shield, 1 trade (plus any river bonus or tile improvement bonuses).
I generally make a practice of mining/roading sugar tiles because they yield a great despotism-era tile of 2 food, 2 shields, 2 trade. Basically sugar tiles are shielded grassland tiles with a +1 trade bonus.

No. The purple dots are possible settling locations.
The grapes are just out of view, to the north-west.

OK then, still settle were we are.
Right now we get the sheild/ food bonus from the cattle, in ten turns we get the food commerce bonus from grapes and sugar.
This is a no brainer for me, settle!!!!!

Playing at Emperor Difficulty level, we will need the grapes pretty quickly to keep our people drunk off their asses and happy. If we move at all, we loose this quick advantage.
Settle right there.
