Could be a hard with Gold's man-marking tactics. Red seem to be good at keeping the ball in midfield, but that packed Gold box offers no easy way through.

i think the chance of interception needs to be decreased from 100% to more like 25-50% so that a pass can get through.

This game, like normal football, offers the chance of a 0-0 draw
Hmmm... probably I need someone to do with the rules like Spaced did with Gladiator and the team effort on Nuclear War. I come up with the beta rules, and then we all chip in as usual.
Whatever we have, we must remember that random numbers = dead forum game, so that's NOT an option.

We all START by trusting the GM
The joy of forum games is the simple security of a game system like chess, where chance plays not part in the outcome, only skill and a bit of double-guessing.

you guys should give different players different skills(advantages at least, maybe disadvantages too?) so the game is more dynamic. there should be unique skills per position if not per player. you could have both hidden and unhidden skills too. make it more like real soccer...

That could be an interesting idea. A Fast guy always gets a pass, unless the interceptor is also Fast. A Strong guy can't be tackled, unless the tackler is also Strong, and so on.

Make it into a rock-paper scissors thing perhaps...
Fast > Skilled > Strong > Fast when fighting for getting a pass
Strong > Skilled > Fast > Strong when contesting a tackle... just an idea.

That sounds good.
I'd be tempted to have Gladiatoresque stats chosen (secretly) by the team members before we start, so that you can choose to be quick and skilful but unlikely to be much good in defence, or a lumbering hulk that can take the ball as easy as looking at you.
The stats would then be compared using your system above, but with no more than three! Basically, it'd end up a little like Top Trumps.

We can try some of the ideas out to see how they work, then fine tune the system.

Something like Speed, Strength, and Accuracy?

Well, skill instead of accuracy, but basically, yes.
Pass accuracy would depnd upon skill, and if your skill was high enough, then the defender's attempt to intercept or win the ball would be adjusted by an, as yet unknown, modifier.
Right then:
You get 100 points to divide as you see fit for your player (rush goalies of course ).
A player with skill of 55 has over 50% on passing, so he could pass the ball to a teammate, and the defender would have less chance of intercepting. If the defender and the teammate are in the same square, then the player who won the ball would be the one with the highest toal of speed and strength. The high skill of the player passing the ball would mean that the defender would suffer -10 in this comparison.
Peter Beardsley (skill 55) passes the ball to Gary Lineker (speed 55, strength 20), who is marked by Ronald Koeman (speed 35, strength 45).
If Terry Butcher (skill 20) had passed the ball, then (35+45>55+20) Koeman comes away with the ball, but since Beardsley was a magician with an ugly face, then he manages to thread the pass through into space for Lineker to run on to. (55+20>35+45-10)
Is that clear?
