Yeah, I fondly remember playing civ II for hours when I was younger. I like civ III but it just didn't make the same impact on me.

Of course it is! Civ3 is an abomination, and the reason that the Civ series isn't the best ever. Civ 2 is a great game. Remember playing it for hours. I probably played that game more than any other, but, of course, doesn't mean it is the best.

Civ3 is really only popular in the Civ3 forums.
Venture outside of there and it is despised

I take the offense is picking CivIII or CivII? Civ II was #2 on my list for years, but I see no reason to play it anymore. I went with games I still play.
Many of those games are older than CivII, but I still play them.
Now if the list was for games that I spent the most time playing, it would be on the list.
So maybe a mild rebuke is more just than impalement.

Not really. SimCity 4 Deluxe, actually states on the box that it is the original game plus the expansion in one convenient package. So you still need the original game to play it - it just happens to also provide that game for you.
Regarding ToT:

but it was a stand alone game... not jsut an expansion pack..

I must confess here to not actually knowing much about ToT, other than my thinking that it was an expansion. It was just the only expansion pack I could think of at the time. I'll change the example when I finish the current updates, and of course take back any objections to ToT being voted for.
I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

I like all of that just fine, but when they took away my spies, camels, and ability to terraform they crossed the line.
I like turning the poles into industrial powerhouses, regardless of how unbelievable it may be.

camels is what killed civ 2 in my eyes , became jsut a game of rush the camels and build the wonders with them.
and spies ability to freely move other units around zoc was bad.
the only thing i miss from civ2 is its zoc, i want it back ...

People who like Civ III are stupid. Throw rocks at them!
I've just remembered the hours I wasted on Speedball 2. Can I have an eleventh please? (note to students - this is not a measure of marijuana )

This was what made me love Civ3 in the first place...
Spies - I just hate them... don't have any reason to or not to, I just do...
Camels - Dam I hated them... they just didn't make any sense at all... even though it hurted my economy, I decided not to use them, because of their annoyance...
Terraform - Now that doesn't make any sense... first you have some tundra, after some terraforming it became a dessert (or maybe it was the other way around, never remember), and I go WTF

You're inviting Skanky to take a +1?
Who'd like to bet what his response will be?

+1
No more vote changing. Also, no more than 10 games.
If there is enough interest when this poll has run its course, I'll start a best games of all-time poll allowing no less than 20 games per each list. Hooray!
EDIT: The list was here at one stage, but has since moved on.

They don't sell that here.
Out of curiosity, what is specifically better?
Strangely enough, the thing that annoys me about Madden... is John Madden himself.
