What's the absolute Settler speed record?
What's the absolute Settler speed record?
What I mean by this -- how soon is it theoretically possible to build a second city (not taking free settlers into account) ?
Should we mine or irrigate with the worker? Should he chop down a forest in some point in time? Which combination of food and production will lead to the best result?
I have a feeling that we have a good shot at this record now, and that it may benefit us a great deal.
OTOH - we are not industrious so our worker is pretty slow...

For the fastest Settler, we should have joined our Worker...
Getting that first Settler out the door ASAP is not always the best thing to do. Especially here, where we have a high-Shield but low-Food start; we'll need that Granary to supply us with a steady stream of Settlers beyond the first.

Yes, managed growth is best considering the goal of this first game. We don't need to set any settler speed records and we definitely don't want to overextend and leave ourselves easy prey for any team that happens to come wandering along.

I'm sure we can manage that diplomatically, Rhoth.
OK - the fastest Settler without joining the worker then?

That all basically depends on how soon you can get a city to size 3 without a Granary. If you have lots of bonus tiles that give you faster growth and a good sheild density, then Relatively soon. This also depends on a few other factors, like when you start on the production of this settler (i.e. how soon after size 3 is it going to be built) and if you irrigate or mine these bonus tiles.
The factors are sometimes too varied to put an actual time as to the soonest. But IIRC, a pair of Cows is the best for getting to size 3 fastest and have good production capabilities.

Neet, Radioactive Cows. Then they could also get double the bonus, because we could work them at night, because they would be glowing in the dark!!

Plus, we can use them as an offensive weapon.

Radioactive cows?
For some reason this thread has started to remind me of the South Park episode where all the cows start to worship the wooden cow clock and then throw themselves off the cliff.
Maybe we could find a nice cliff overlooking GWT and have our radioactive cows jump off the cliff into their nation.

Or better yet, Invent a cow-tip-pult to toss 'em in?

Just need to wait for the plague. Then we can catapult rotting corpses into their cities.

Yeah, I still wonder why the UK didn't declare war on Iraq when they had mountains of infected rotting cow corpes. That would have spared a lot of money and from their experiences with the Indians, we all know that it's a very effective method...
