Another Forum Game: Baseball
I came up with an idea for 5-a-side baseball (inspired by 5-a-side football). Here's what I came up with so far...
There are "orders" you can giveBatting:
Bunt - 100% hit rate, 1 power
Low-Hit - Up to 3 Power, along ground
Drop-In - Up to 4 Power
Hail Mary - Up to 10 Power, 25% chance of hit
Power = squares it goes. the last powerpoint is always along the ground for Drop-in and Hail Mary (e.g if the hailmary goes 5 points, 4 is in the air, 1 is along the ground.)
Fielding
Catch - Anything going through ZOC is caught
Throw - Player, if recieves ball will throw to designated base/player
Tag player - Player, if recieves ball will attempt to tag runner.
Outfielders will always move towards the ball
How it works?
5 players, 3 on bases, 2 in the outfield. Others bat.
Each player has a ZOC (i.e. square they are on). They move towards the ball according to their speed.
Captains give orders for each turn:
e.g. Player X throw to Base 2, Base 2 tag runner.
***********
Each team gets 50 points to spend on it's players. These points can be distributed amongst:
Speed (how quickly they move)
Throwing (throwing ability (i.e. accuracy)
Catching (duh?)
Batting (how well they bat)
If a player has 3S/2T/2C/3B, he will zip around 3 squares per "beat", and 3/5 of his hits will be accurate and go in the direction he wanted them to. Power is a random number between 0 and the max power for the shot.
When fielding, 2/5 of his throws will find the target, and he will catch 2/3 of all balls entering his "ZOC".

Looks like 5 per side, AKA as 10 total.
What no pitching? Or was that too hard to incorporate?
But I do like the idea of stats for players. Reminds me of the TV sports games.

I think we should virtualize pitchers. This is softball, right?

Unless we define utterly different stats for pitchers...
so they can choose to be a lefty or a righty... power or finese pitcher... have endurance... etc.
I'd like that but... we have to come up with other stats for them.

I was think more along the lines of them picking a pitch and the batter picking a swing. All pitch types have one swing weakness, with others maybe at a reduced chnce to hit and one always being a low probability to hit or just alway miss.
For instance a fastball might be a selection.
The bunt results in a miss
Low-Hit has a 25% chance of hitting
Drop-In has a 35% chance of hitting
Hail Mary has a 45% chance of hitting (the optimal choice for the fastball).
The other 3 pitches would be the slider for low hit. The curve for Drop-in, and the off-speed for the bunt.
I don't know about the percentages. Looks like this is going to be softball (almost everyone will hit in 3 strikes) more than baseball (might see SO and BoB). Due to time contraints of a forum game the softball option might be better.

And when you pitch you don't throw it overarm, but underarm, so it's slower, and no variety in pitch strength.

If we can't get 10, we COULD get away with 6 for a test run, and see how many runs you can get with 3 outs by yourself....

IMO softbal is more of a hitting and fielding duel, where as baseball is more of a pitcher batter duel, with some fielding involved, but not as much as BB.
