Bring it, but give us a week or so to finalize the AU mod.
In fact, I wouldn't mind waiting for the 'end of February' patch to come out first.
I loved the pre-game thread with the screenshot of the start in AU 501, BTW.

And the challenge is...?
A technical one? Run 5 cities as 4-turn settler pumps from 3900Bc until 500AD...
A philosophical one? No wars, only defensive wars, only wars...
A government one? Switch asap to Feudalism, then stick to it for the rest of the game?
A trading one?No luxuries/resources on your continent/island, no wars to get them?
A speedy one? Fastest win in each category/level?
An unexpected one? capture the bride/queen/king/ whatever win?
A mathematical one? highest score/gold/units...?
A literate one? best DAR of the game?
An unheard one? ....

Play the game as you like, perhaps?
Not all of us are so jaded with Civ 3 that we need some exotic challenge to spice up the game. I started the last AU and gave up in disgust when the volcano spewed lava all over the iron resource. If someone wants a challenging game, he should play demigod or deity, instead of forcing everyone to follow some pre-defined path.

This is precisely what I'm waiting for. Basically, I'm try to emulate Dom. Once there's a new version of the mod, I can make the Mod Savs(I already have the stock ones) and post the intro.
But I do want to wait for the currently Under Consideration items to be decided and incorporated into the Mod. I'm not sure if I uploaded the start screenshot to my 'poly Notebook or just the intro text - I'll check and try to post a "look what's coming" thread either tonight or tomorrow. Well, after I move all the oil and rubber to be under AI capitols, that is.
Edit: Jeeze, 10 votes for "Bring it!"? I voted for bananas and I'm not even privy to whatever the joke is. Of course, it would have been wrong for me to cast a "real" vote. If you guys are that ready, then get to the issues threads and bang out some solutions/proposals. And don't forget to vote, panel members!

The last AU (the Power of Seafaring) had a theme, but no particular rules to follow. So it was not that esoteric (although some might argue that the resource distribution was too skewed). I believe the next one will have a theme too, but again no rules.
You can play each scenario/course at the difficulty level of your choice (request Chieftain and Warlord if you really want to play at those difficulties).
That's too bad about the Volcano in your game, but Volcanos are very much part of the standard game now. They're only "esoteric" because you're not used to them (this was my argument for the resource distribution in AU501, by the way).

Bring it.
P.S. I love the word Esoteric, reminds me of this episode of The Family Guy:
After Peter's suggestion for the parade theme, in the episode of Who's The Boss where Tony sees Angela in the shower naked, wins, Lois says "Peter, don't you think that's a bit esoteric?" Then you see a board meeting taking place in Peter's brain, with the word "esoteric" being projected onto a screen, and they are arguing about what it means. One of them says "I think it's a science term!" and another says "Gentlemen, gentlemen.. Esoteric means delicious." Peter say "Lois, Who's The Boss is not a food."

Ok, another suggestion:
can we play in groups like AUSG101?
We make teams (3-5 players), decide on a common victory type and choose the best save within our team. Each team has a thread.
Anyone interested?

I prefer to play as an individual for the regular AU games. It might be interesting to have another AUSG though.

I think another AUSG would be interesting. Especially now that I've moved up to Emperor and could use some feedback

I wouldn't mind setting another one up if there is enough interest (and I'll make it more difficult this time ). It should probably wait until after AU502 though since Ducki already has this one mostly set up for a regular AU game.

Is there anything to stop a group of players from choosing to play as an SG?

No, but they would have to do it from the Strat forum instead of the AU forum.

Yes, if a group of people want to play the same game and even post in the DAR threads like everyone else, I don't see why not.
I suspect they will have a hard time getting enough people for more than one game though.

Probably close enough to wait........I know there are people waiting for it, even though it doesn't add anything to 1.15 beta.

Quick question: can I set things up to try the AU mod for this course without screwing up my ongoing games without the AU mod? [Of course, I *might* be able to finish AU501 before this one starts...maybe.]

You will have the option of using either the AU mod or standard rules when Ducki provides the save. The AU mod is already incorporated into the game (if you want it) so there is no need to install anything or screw up any regular games. Think of the AU mod like one of the Conquests...just a slightly different ruleset than normal.

They had two flavors last time. One that worked like you said and one that you could use some files to get some grahpics. If I understood it correctly.

Will we get a Sid difficulty version? (I've only lost 2 of my last 3 AU courses played!)

Re: the mod savs - if you don't have the mod installed, you'll likely want to install a version of it that has the custom tech tree graphic for the Industrial age, where we've removed, IIRC, Electronics as a prereq for Motorized Transport. Otherwise you just have to remember that you can go MT without getting Elec. Aside from that, as mentioned by others, the mod version of the SAV files already have the rules baked inside.
Aeson - I'm providing Regent through Sid. If anyone wants Warlord or Chieftain, they can request them and I'll be happy to add that to the zipfile. I was hoping someone would go for the gold.

So you'd be happier if you were 0 for 3? Well, let's hope I haven't miscalculated and Sid can give you a third loss.

If we wait until the 1.20 patch comes out, you won't even need the optional tech tree graphics download for the AU mod.
