civ3 in a window in XP?
Is it possible to play civ3 in a window rather than a full screen under XP?
if so how do I make it so...

there is no need too, just use the windows key.
There is some kind of 'forced window' play, but that does require to fiddle around with the INI. settings.

Not supported in a window, but as alva said you can use the window key.
I also get good use of the show desktop icon.

Civ2 would have that issue if used the Direct X suite.

It may be possible to play civ3 in a window. Just install vmware(or some other virtual machine thingy) on your comp, install windows on the VM and then civ3 on top of that...If vmware supports directx it should work.
Haven't tried it myself though. I will if I someday lay my greasy hands on vmware *drooling*

the civ3\conquests\conquests.ini file settings are:
KeepRes=1
Video Mode=1280
keepres = 1 means it uses the forced window mode, and video mode should be your desktop's resolution.
you get a much bigger game map like this btw, so it might be slow on lower end machines.

All you need is the KeepRes line. It will start the same as your desktop resolution.
