Right now the team is projecting a minimum spec for the game that requires a 1GHz processor, 128MB of RAM and a GeForce 2 or equivalent video card.

From Gamespy:
You can:
# Sail Your Ship, looking for prey, avoiding storms, and evading patrols of hostile governments.
# Stop off at Port to upgrade your ship, sell your booty, listen for rumors in the tavern, or get new missions.
# Visit the Governor to chat about world events, or do him favors to increase your rank with his government.
# Fight Sea Battles, maneuvering your ship, firing broadsides, in order to sink, flee from, or board an enemy.
# Get into Swordfights, either on the decks of an enemy ship or in town, using a variety of fancy footwork and fun special moves.
# Break out of Prison, avoiding guards as you sneak through a maze of darkened town streets at night.
# Hunt for Buried Treasure, piecing together maps during your voyage and ultimately leading a crew of buccaneers to a convenient giant "X" painted on the landscape.
# Lead Raids into Enemy Towns with muskets, swords, and a simplified real-time strategy interface.
# Woo the Governor's Daughter with your daring deeds and your abilities on the dance floor. Yes, Pirates! is also a dancing sim.

I'm imagining that in the first picture the waves breaking on the shore are animated. That looks sweet.
It will be released here in Europe 8 months late, of course, and then will need a patch, which will take another 6 months and not fix anything.
Atari are publishing, yes?

Yes them. So forget all your hopes NOW.
I was so excited about TOEE and MoO3... both built up to be the best game "liek eva!!!"
I'd like to think I learnt my lesson. Pirates will only be bought at least 8 weeks after release.

Nah, I knew MoO 3 would be a lemon from the get-go. With all due respect to Alan, his design was overly ambitious. I knew QuickSilver could not possibly implement the plan, so they would start cutting back on the design and do strange things to push the game out of the door.
But they better not mess with this.

It looks quite ambitious to me... I bet that people are going mad when its released, calling it a buggy heap of **** and asking why xyz wasn't implemented properly.

Atari?!? They'll start work on the next game the day this one is released and post to say fixing blatant bugs in the first game is not their priority. But that wouldn't happen would it?
Nice screenies though.

If it runs on a GeForce2 or higher, I wouldn't say those are ugly.

Why? There's been better looking games that don't even require a graphics card.

Every computer game requires a graphics card!
Although I guess you mean a 3d one, in which case you are correct.
Whats with the name-change, btw?

Its DOES look ambitious. They want to make a RPG, a real-time naval combat sim, a swordfighting/beat-'em-up sim, an exploration/trading game, a RTS urban combat section and some kind of "escape from jail" action game - but all in one game.
Now THAT is what I would call ambitious. They are really biting off too much.

It does look like a fairly souped-up version of the original, though I don't think it's overly ambitious. None of the components are very complicated.

It does seem pretty managable... and they KNOW that the game concept works and will sell.
This is one of the biggest no brainer sequels ever.

"Right now the team is projecting a minimum spec for the game that requires a 1GHz processor, 128MB of RAM and a GeForce 2 or equivalent" [from the IGN preview].
For Pirates! thats a bit over the top no, even for 2004?
I guess my 166 wont cut it.....
Still maybe they might do a console version?

Its got 48MB wow feel the power Strangely when i compare it with the pc's at work(p2 500mhz+), it doesnt come of too bad, maybe a few secs longer to boot w98, the same when opening a word 2000 doc. Im happy with it anyway, although CTP2 on gigantic maps can be a pain
And its just so i can play oldies as they were meant to be - including the origonal Pirates
Anyway i guess i was meaning if the new Pirates requires a 1Ghz pc, then maybe i wont get it for my xbox......
1Ghz for Pirates.......just think about it for abit.......
