No, not a Sims fan... this is anything BUT the Sims . The majority of the game will be ship battles... ie, strategy.

Wake up and smell the coffee! That's exactly what their making Sims Pirates! or "Sims Meier's Pirates! 2."
The emphasis of the game is to swordfight, woo the daughter (Sims dating), and dance on the dance floor (Sims Nightlife).
Pirates! 2 is a game for Sims fans.

They could round up all the Furries, too although Sims fans and Furries probably have a lot of overlap.
Although I never would have thought to inclue Imran in this group. He usually seems so intelligent and well grounded.
They need to make the Dance an option that can be turned off. That is just going in the wrong direction for Sid.

GF shows he has no idea what the Hell he is talking about, meaning that PR2 is probably much worse than we all thought .

Just don't try to marry the Governor's daughter... DUH!
Of course PR2 has swordfighting... it's a Sims game too? I wonder if PR2 really even cares about ship battles? Probably not, it just like numbers in a spreedsheet form of game.

Actually ship battles are the bulk of PR2, you spend more time on that than anything. And unlike Pirates! you can have up to 20 Convoys and 10 ships per convoy for 10 on 10 fleet battles.
Pirates! 2 had to cut the fleet battles, ship burnings and what not for the dancing shoes and leisured suits I guess...........

If you, as the player, could have conveys in a game called PIRATES, I'd be definetly disappointed.

No, see, unlike your precious PR2, Pirates! can do two things at once and add fun little side-quests .
--
Of course, Pirates! 1 is considered a gaming classic, while PR1 was a forgettable distraction .

Sorry, but Pirates! 2 just sounds like an unfunny version of Monkey Island 3 or 4.

Adventure game. If chronology is important then really Monkey Island was a rip off of Pirates! without the fun sailing, piracy, town-raiding, treasure hunting or trading bits

How dare you not know what Monkey Island is?! You have invalidated your gaming opinion on everything in one fell swoop.

How can a gamer not know the Monkey Island series (even if they didn't like it or something)

GF, your assignment is to acquire a copy of Monkey Island and experience for yourself the ... Monkey Island experience.
(Mental note, revise the above sentence before posting)
You fight like a dairy farmer.

Oh great.......
- Sid is doing it.
- Atari publishing.
- An old classic being remaked "simplified" for the masses and "prettier".
- 3D engine proven to be crap.
Hmm...... remind anyone of anything?
He screwed us with Civ3, he'll screw us with Pirates.

No... Sid didn't 'do' Civ3. Civ3 was anything if 'simplified'. Civ3 didn't have a 3D engine.
So, fails on every account. I think Sid actually involved in programming in Pirates! will make this a can't miss.

Imran:
Sorry, but if you put your name on the box, you have to expect it to be yours, and to expect the flak in your name when it flops. Oh, and straight from the Civ3 website FAQ, "overseeing the project" pretty much says it's his:
Quote:
|
What is Sid Meier's role in the making of Civilization III?
Sid is the Director of Creative Development at Firaxis Games. He is overseeing the project, making game play and design decisions.
|
I didn't say Civ3 had a 3D engine, I said the 3D engine in pirates 2 is crap.
And Civ3 WAS simplified. Heaps! Just one look at the UI tells us that, not to mention that model simplifications.

Imran you shouldn't dismiss Dale's points IMO. Atari don't have a great record, and any of the good Civ3 players who have a long history with Civ will tell you it's simplified as compared to Civ2, despite the additions made.
As to Sid's 'involvement' I doubt that has any bearing any more either for good or bad.

It was probably something I looked at and thought "oh, this is one of those education child games like Oregon Trail" and promptly put down and completely wiped from my memory.
