the years 820AD-1120AD
820
Disband 2 Warriors into Camel production.
Xin
840
CONSTRUCTION > POTTERY
Taxes to 10,50,40 on non-Xin turn = 3G 19T 1 red face
Cardiff Builds Sun Tzu
860
XIN, taxes to 50,50,0 = 7G 8T
Celtic Trireme moves from north of city to the east.
880
900
Gems Caravan built in apolytonia. Change to Aqueduct.
Camels are being saved for the harbor which can get us celebrating again.
920
Celtic Trireme moves from east to West waking our sleeping NON settler. It looks as if we could be in a good shipping lane.
940-1000AD
1020
Isandhlwana (Zulu) builds Leo’s
1040 nothin’
1060
POTTERY > SEAFARING
Taxes can be adjusted to 20,80,0 During Xin for 7 turn discoveries but it does not leave any profits, and the aqueduct will be completed soon so we need the $.
Stay with 50,50,0 for 7G and 8T
1080
1100 Postpone Xin process one turn to complete the Aqueduct next turn.
1120 Aqueduct built, switch to Coliseum (which can later become the much needed harbor)

good to see we are doing seafaring, but the harbor isn't going to help us celebrate unless you were planning on using the harbor to help the city grow from food surplus... (it will still celebrate on even population #s before demo, but not odd with our current # of cities) the colosseum is what will allow the city to celebrate by getting rid of the unhappiness.

The harbour will let us boost the number of squares we can use to 12, so making full use of the aqueduct just constructed. The trade arrows from sea squares should boost science nicely, but we can celebrate to size 12 with just luxuries I'd have though, and don't need the colosseum. We should be looking to have a caravel finished as soon as we get navigation, and a couple of camels and a settler to ride it. I suggest that IPRBuying is the way ahead here.
I'm tempted to go for the Consulate, but am not sure that I could stop playing to keep you all informed, or remember to capture any pictures. I'll have a think about it before the next elections, but no promises.

Go for it Duke, The 10 turn limit per session we have been discussing in the constitution thread HERE could help
IIRC we can get 3 happy and one red face at 50% lux, and at 80% we get a fourth happy. With the harbor you can move workers form one of the grasslands, the mines, and the plains to ocean for 5 more trade arrows which I believe would do the trick to get us to 8, beyond 8 we would probably need the Colosseum beyond that.
After 8 we will need the harbor for the extra food if we want to keep and Xin.

I haven't looked at the game yet, but would it be possible to move workers to sea squares for the extra trade, so that we can get better celebration results? Just a thought, but we still need the production to make a boat!

answer is no, not right now - reason is that the game will not allow more than 2 goblets per citizen to affect happiness. And it takes 2 goblets to change the attitude of 1 citizen 1 level. so it takes 4 goblets to make an unhappy citizen a happy one. look at the attached pic to see how once we reach 14 goblets, no additional goblets have any effect on happiness. we need to rely on other tools - and temple and colosseum are the only 2 options atm (see 3rd happiness line). at levels below diety where more than 1 citizen starts content, fewer goblets are needed to convert those initial citizens to being happy, so things like colosseums are less needed. also, at even # city sizes, you can use entertainers since you only need to convert half to happy, but at odd# city sizes, where you need to convert over half, any specialists eliminate the ability to celebrate until other factors are available (hanging gardens, cure for cancer, courthouse in democracy, etc)

Just wanted to point out that we have been allowed to build additional cities since 1040 AD... I'm surprised we were not prepared to take advantage of that at the first opportunity.

Well the trouble is that we have to get off the damned rock, and we haven't got caravels! The triremes would just sink before we reached land.

Cavebear,
I was able to dl and open the save, but don't have civ on this pc to try and open the file. (work PC )
If the save is the problem then i can try posting it again.
As for our city build I think we should prepare by building a defense unit to accompany our settler, or take place of our archer so that he may go, and continue the xin towards NAV. We are probably looking at another 20 turns until then wich is plenty of time to produce the phlanx AND enough shields to the Caravel.

For whatever reason, it acts like a link (that doesn't open) rather than a file that I can DL. I don't know why. Perhaps you could try attaching the file itself (*.sav) rather than the location of it.
And at the risk of being subversive, you can keep the civ files on a computer, copy the .exe file to a diskette, then delete it from the hard drive. Since LAN managers look for .exe files to detect unauthorized software, they won't see it. Give the civ folder a boring but official-sounding name, of course. [/QUOTE]

I think it is that the "build 2nd city" year came upon us faster than expected. We should have been planning for that better (and I emphasize the "we"). We didn't plan this well. Personally, I regret supporting the disbanding of 1 warrior; it could have travelled with the none settler had we researched the caravel tech in time.
We're going to have a real hard time of it once we engage the rest of the world. On the other hand, it may be a game truly hard-won if we can pull it off!
Let's take the hand we've dealt ourselves and proceed as best we can. And if I can see the save, I'll do all I can to help.

CB,
Unfortunately that IS a link...
forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=2815049
It leads to apolytons "check out these cool downloads" page that you must then click the "skip" link at the top to get the DL.
Here is the "skip" link.
SKIP
It should take you strait to the Download.
BTW for the heads up, however I too was once a LAN manager and now a notivication is sent to the presiding LANMAN each time a program is installed
I know some possible ways arround it but don't want to risk it .

When I click on it, nothing shows on the screen. Could you please just attach the real game file to a post? Game files are small enough not to require zipping, but I can easily unzip a real file.

I am in the process of moving right now so my next chance to play will probably be tomorrow or thursday.
Any feed back from the citizens or ministers before the play?

The focus will be on getting to seafaring and building the ship.

:sigh: one of my children decided to "fix" the FDD with a screwdriver friday afternoon. To add to the problem I lost the Power cable to my external CD-RW drive. So I had no way to transport the save until I bought and installed a new floppy. Bought sat. installed sun. and here is the save on monday. I hate moving.

Oh long-sufferring Consul Zedd, we thank you for your efforts in the face of such adversity! While my cats ocassionally walk on my keyboard, they haven't got the ability to do the damage of human children or the computer demons of "Hardware Failure" or "General Fault".
