I just went into walmart for the first time in months... I feel physically ill
I'm in a class where the proffesor shamelessly talks about his political truths(I say truths because im arrogant, its not his "opinions" or his "beliefs" because what he says is true).
5 of the 10 richest americans are the children of the founder of walmart.
90%+ of walmart employees make minimum wage.... they force employees to routinley work unpaid overtime, they hire illegal aliens and pay them less, they put smaller companies out of buisness....
I walk in and notice they have quite literaly everything in this store... I dont know why, but for some reason it bothers me that an American could reasonably buy any product they would ever need in that store, short of a car.
I walk to the food isle and get what I need and went to the register.... I am pretty sure I know why, but as I left the store I felt wracked with guilt, and physically ill to know a place like that exists.... I'm staying out of walmart from now on.

Wal-Marts are dirty, but I am oftentimes forced to shop there.
I much prefer Target.

So you are physically ill that a store has everything you could possibly want to buy?

Target is my store of choice. Neither me nor my wife like Wal-Mart, but we still end up shopping there from time to time.

I worked in a target for a few months once, all in all I couldnt complain about the job, managers treated the employees well, pay was as good as I could expect for that job-starting pay was 7.50.

Do they pull you out of your house and drag you to the store?
Box stores are churches of Satan.

No, but comfortable as my gas-guzzling SUV is, I am too impatient to sit in traffic getting to Target every time I need something.

At all of the locally owned buisness that've gone out of buisness in favour of the junk shops.

When I come across one, I'll do that. I don't know of any mom-and-pop stores that sell toilet paper and toothpaste.

It turns shop keepers into minimum-wage check out boys, and it takes everyone's money and puts it in the pockets of CEOs and shareholders who couldn't give a rat's ass about the people paying them, or the place they live in.

I am not averse to the concept of the supermarket though...convenient, everything in one place and cheap...so much less messing...

What is better for the local economy, three dozen various small local shops, from bike repair to a super market to a shoe store, or a walmart super-abortion which employs 150 people at minimum wage?

Yes, because box stores are the only buisnesses that need employees.
And they are dead-end minimum wage jobs, let me remind you.

You buy from a box store, the money goes flying away to some CEO and you never see it again. You buy at a locally owned buisness and the money goes to your neighbour, keeping the money in the community. The CEOs just want your money, they don't care about you or your community. Your neighbour, on the other hand, does (well, I hope he does). They don't want to see the place they live in turn to scowler any more than you do.
If you buy at a locally owned buisness your community grows. If you buy at a box store, the only thing that grows are the pockets of the share holders, and your community dies a slow ugly death as it seaps into poverty.

I would rather go 2 K-Mart than Wal-Mart (which is saying something since our K-Mart went out of business)

So? The idea is that I give them money and they give me stuff.

So? I don't have it anymore. What if the CEO lives in my neighborhood?

So? Unless the end result is that I get more stuff, somehow for the same amount of money, why should I buy from them instead of Walmart?

The point is you getting your stuff, puts lots of people in your community out of buisness. See how nice a place your community is when alot of good jobs go out of the area and it seeps into poverty.
