Planetary Pack
I brought that laptop collection just so I could get my grubby hands on SMAX.
Whenever I play SMAC, I don't need the CD in the drive. However if I want to play SMAX, I can't proceed until I have the CD in the drive.
Is this normal? Or perhaps I overlooked something during installation?

Normal IIRC.
However there is some no-CD crack.

I believe if you do a SMACX complete install then use cracked exe for SMACX you can play without a cd with full features. You'll still get a message about no cd in drive though.

I've used the SMACX no-CD crack for several years. You don't get a message about the lack of a CD in the drive.
