Tales from the European Front I Setup

Howdy all, seeing as how i'm taking a class all about War and Diplomacy in 19th century Europe i'm rather interested in the alliances and political manuverings and battles that are waged upon this continent among various different nations. Therefore I'd like to start a Diplo game on the European continent.

Same rules as typical diplomatic games except on a european map. But since the traditional map that comes with the game isn't really the best i have selected another which i think does the continent much more justice. This map is highly acurate and a much better rendering of the actual europe. It can be downloaded at the apolyton site, and is called "Real Europe"

Everyone complained last Diplo game i was in that i played as the Metalheads and wasn't historically acurate enough, so now we have a shot at being really true to form. The big powers; England, France, Russia, Germany have to be taken, and the rest of us have an option of being other nations that have had a big effect in Europe. Spain, Italy, Poland, Greece, Turkey, etc. Personally I am going to be the Hungarians. And you can try and stop me.

I'd like us all to agree on which nation we want to be first and so that the host can make sure that we each start in the correct Earth historical spot.

1x1x, Seven players, difficulty and barbs are up for discussion, traditional diplo rules apply.

Also, since the last diplo game i was in fell into disaster since no one had really done a diplo game before i'd like to get some experienced players in this one. As for a time i'm free sunday afternoons EST for a few hours. I am of course open to discussion on that.

I would like to play in your Diplo game. Sunday afternoons are ok for me, although this Sunday I will be doing the bidding of the Army, so I will not be available until 630 or 700EST.

I would be interested in playing England or Germany.

But i think Berzerker is an experienced diplo player...

Spread the word folks, if you know some experienced players talk to them in person. So far we've got 4 people.

Mr Dimbleby - Spanish or Russians

I think i may know a person or two who might be interested, but ask around. And i'd really prefer people to have a good knowledge of diplo games just because my other experience fell apart because no one did.

Ok, so the country break down is as follows:

Ozzy - Hungary
Berzerker - Germans
Kent-Jo - Spanish or Russians
Mr. Dimblebery - England
Falcon - French
Capo - Italians

We've got one spot left, i want to make sure it is a true diplo game vetran. Falcon, Capo and I have had some experience, berzerker has had some. And I think kent and Dimple are both new.

I'm hoping we can get started as soon as possible, it'll be a long game since we are playing once a week i hope to get an early start. If you can make it this sunday please say so.

Harken, and be warned. A eureopean diplo game has been tried before. I am not certain of this map, but lets put it this way, theres no way at all to stop a skilled Russian expansionist, when you are a Britian or an Italy. Just warning you guys.

I have spoken with Ozzy on AOL about this, and we would really like it if a Spanish, Swedish, Norwegian, or Turkish player would crop up and join our little group. If you haven't seen the map it is way differant from the regular Civ 2 map, for instance:

1- Britain is much larger, as is Italy and the Balkans (Greece as well), Russia is much smaller.

2- The middle east is non existant on this map, only Turkey is there, and parts of Africa.

3- This is probably one of the most realistic maps I have seen, and judging by the countries we have so far, everyone should have a great chance at being a dominating force.

That's about it, the map is really good, and contrary to whatever that one guy said, I have serious doubts that a Russian has a huge advantage on this map, to put it in other words: Moscow is barley on the map, there is not much to Russia on this one, landwise.

I guess we are starting on Sunday, I agree with King Mode and Raging Hordes of Barbarians, I think we should have single production and double movement, since it is the whole continent of Europe and not the world, what does everyone else think?

If you guys need another player I will volunteer to play Spain. I am flexible about all game settings except for movement.....Im only interested if it is 1x movement. I am a veteran of DiploI and Tales from the Diplo Front II not to mention Open Letter to all Nations.....probably 2 of the 3 most successful diplo games of all time. Let me know what time you are starting on Sunday.

Personally i'd like to stick to the 1x movement. Especially since we'd get someone who has had good experience in diplo games in on this one, which could help make this a sure success.

I'm open to difficulty and barbs, so whatever you all decide.

We now have 7 players, the list is as follows:

Capo - Italians
Nap Bonaparte - Spanish

and as for the russian situation i picked this map primarily because it cut off half the land afforded to russia in the standard map. Russia is still a bit big, but it shouldn't skew things too much. And they can't build up a barrier between the empty land and the rest of europe since they start way out by the edge of the map. The other european powers can grab up all that land equally.

Only failing of the map as far as i'm concerned is that France seems to be smaller than it should, but due to the distance between it and other powers like germany, the French have suitable room to expand east.

But certianly i think this is the best map of Europe that i have seen, and i am confident this will be a good game.

So, it looks like everyone can make it this Sunday except Mr Dimbleby. Can we find someone to play for him for the first session? I know that the first session is perhaps the most important one, but i kinda want to get started on this.

Is there anyone else interested in playing this sunday?

I'm looking to start around 1 pm EST this Sunday, can everyone else make this or find a replacement?

This would also be a good time for a regular game time, does everyone else agree to this?

Barb level > villages only, having barbs just pop up hurts the White civ. Dimbleby says he can make it by 6:30-7 est sunday, why dont we start at that time for our first session?

And if we play at the king level, then anyone who gets 2 settlers must disband one immediately UNLESS we all get 2 settlers, very unlikely.

There is a minor problem here, I kinda run a wrestling website and I need to watch the PPV that is on from eight until eleven, so this poses a problem, I could realistically miss the first hour, but that would be a great disservice to my readers, as I would be assuming rather than reporting actual crap.

Who cares tho, if we start at 6:30 I can only play until nine, which kinda dampers whatever time-frame you guys had in mind.

Anyway who cares, Giuseppe Garibaldi shall lead the Italians to glory, and who the hell is gonna be the White, I would rather start as white if that is not a problem, unless the Russians will take offense.

Also one more thing, because I know this will become an issue in the game, I don't think that the current borders of European countries should be used as a factor, ie, say I settle eastern Spain, I don't think the Spanish should be able to demand that I hand it over to them in any political arguments due to the fact that it is "Naturally Spanish" Know what I mean?

Just an example, calm down Spaniards!
