OK, so how many of the 7 thousand members post here
With this cookie feature surely there is a way of determining this. What % of total posters posts in these forums at least once a week?

Actually, I was thinking of setting up a census thread in the OTF. But now that you raise the question, maybe we could do something forum wide.

Or maybe MarkG or DanQ have an easier way to answer the question

I remember that Markos once posted how many people had posted in the forums in that month or something like that. I don't remember exactly when that was or what the title of the thread was, but if you look back you should probably be able to find it.

I assume 240-700 people post here monthly.

It would really be interesting if the monthly statistics could be posted somewhere.

To be included would be:
  • No. of people posting in all forums that month
  • No. of people posting in each forum
  • Average no. of times people posted altogether
  • Average no. of times people posted in each forum

I estimate we have between 250 and 700 regular and semi-regular posters in any given month (similar to DarkCloud's estimate). (Actually, the number could be as high as 1200... it's really anyone's guess.)

I agree that it would be very interesting to know these figures. Can't something be set up to tabulate these automatically? I can understand that it would be taxing having to do them manually every week/month.

I think the reason they don't do it is because the true number of unique posters would be revealed...

I just wonder how you thought about this numbers(250-700)...

i'll say that it is ~1000 active posters, and ~400 regulars.

If you're looking at people who post here daily, or near-daily, I wouldn't be surprised if the figure was below 100. Possibly even as low as 50, but that's still a busy forum.

It's got to be more than that...the 'Apolyton Army' thread lists about 95 people who post at least once a day, and a few others that post at least every other day, and it certainly dosen't include all of the regulars.

we can also make a small poll in the OT and CHECK it there instead of guessing numbers.

But even if everyone just posts once in the thread, it would have to stop at 150.

I did an OT census thread a couple of months ago, where I manually went through the last 15 or so pages of OT threads and recorded each poster. I also included posters from Narck's Age & ICQ FAQ that I was sure of had been known to post in the OT. People chipped in on the thread itself, naming old timers who'd been gone for a long time, but were known to be OT'ers. I believe the total was somewhere around 340, but unfortunately the thread is no longer to be found on the boards. I might have a copy of it on my home computer - I'll give it a check to see if I can come up with the correct number from this particular count. Not that it's the truth about how many people post, but it's at least a reflection of the general number we're looking for.

Can we conclude then that the real membership of ACS is some 1000 or about 15% of the inflated 7K?
