Finally, another supporter for Colonization.
While we are at it; how about an Alpha Centauri II section for ideas for ACII?

BTW, I don't mean to support a civ1 or colonization forum, I realize that it's old and wouldn't have much steam, but it would be good to have some resources like we have with civ1

Certainly judging from the recommendations I asked for in other games, Colonization is a clear winner. A "Great Library" for Colonization would be a great idea.

It's a very good game for sure, but what's there to discuss?

How about a Colonization section?
Is there much interest in this? I have listened to several people in the "other games" and the "civ2 general" forums declare it to be a better game than the original civilization.
It qualifies for apolytonship as MOO and MOO2 don't because of it's relationship to civilization. Colonization is to Civilization as Alpha Centauri is to Civilization II. A kind of mini sequel of sorts.
I would love to come here and see Civilization and Colonization listed under the "Oldies" on the main page.
But I don't know what it would take. What can we all do?

Oh I remember Colonization. I can't find my CD but I have managed to get it emailed to me. It will be like reliving past memories. Now I will have to have a game of the original Civ at some point as well

You could discuss ideas about the sequel;
I have at least 3 at the top of my head; and if more were yanked out I would probably be able to fill a forum.

What I was hoping for was a colonization section off the main page, under "oldies", right next to Civ1.
There would be about the game FAQ's, strategy tips, news (if any), and so forth, just like for civ1.
there probably isn't enough traffic to justify a forum for it, but we could discuss Colonization and Civilization in the "Other Games/Civ Comparison" forum.
so, who wants to contribute?

Strategy for colonisation itsn't very... involved. It's a very easy game.

Just as a matter of interest, is it possible to win by other means than independance? Can you, for example, win by conquest of all European nations? Not that that would be easy, mind...

Yeah! Colonize!
As a matter of fact, guess what i do with the soldier you get at the begginning, Chowlett...
BTW, i was playing some civ 1 yesterday, trying the railroad building on the ocean, built a fortress also and made two bombers dissappear.

Most of the time I have to stretch out the game by killing indians and toying with the other nations, even on the highest difficulties. It's because the AI has "perks" - you can predict where their ships come out, where their colonies are by the way their ships move, and you can also rig the results of battles with save/load. Indian trading is also very easy because you just keep upping the price, seeing what their limit is, then load and go right to the limit.

OK, Using the Civ1 section as a guide, I figure we would need:
Scenarios. Are there any?
Utilities. Any?
Patches.
FAQ. Of Course.
Gameplay. Natch.
News. any to be had? it's not one of the great classics of all time, like civilization itself, so people have largely forgotten it. Nevertheless...
OK, the ball is thrown out there. can any of you get these things, or find out where they can be had? Would you be willing to write an FAQ? Strategy Tips? We need these things if we're going to have this section.
If we don't produce them, this suggestion will die for lack of interest.

I've just visited the site dedicated to Colonization http://www.dledgard.freeserve.co.uk/ and I think the basics might already be in place here. Perhaps those who have graduated could help build on that.
Edit: I notice there is a small collection of scenarios in his Download section.

The cheats.
(I've got them local but maybe the site above would have them anyway.)

Sorry, but we do not have any intention of opening a Colonization section on ACS now or in the near future.
