How are we looking for a session on Tuesday night from 9pm?
I'm really enjoying watching Deity righteously rip into the makeo/finbar alliance

Don't worry Hydey, he's probably hopeless with a mower.

I could think of nothing more humiliating than being caught in possession of a mower.

I think we need to put a time limit on turns. Can we do this midgame?
I know people have a lot to do when at war but getting through only a handful of turns in a 2 hour session is really unacceptable. I need to make the best use of the limited time I have to play. I'm sure others have similar interests and I'm not blaming anyone.
A five minute limit would be acceptable to me. At the current rate we will finish this game some time in 2003, and we haven't even got into the modern period yet. Any other views?

I totally disagree
I think that is unfair
I play so many games where I patiently wait while others fight wars and I don't complain
You can't measure the fun in a game by the nimber of turns. So much can happen in one turn. And it all evens out.
Earlier on in this game my turns were really quick when finbar and makeo were trading - not even war!
Please...
NO time limit.

Deity, last night was excessive. I'm not blaming you but if chess players can do it, so can we. I can't imagine what those having long turns were doing.

Time limits would not worry me although I do not agree with them. They are something that should be agreed upon before you start the game.

You all know I'm not in the habit of complaining about the length of people's turns and I don't intend to start now. Nor do I wish to be dogmatic about turn length - if people need extra time they should have it, without the need to explain why. But it seems to me it is so hard just to find times that suit 5 players, and it is a very enjoyable game, that we should make an effort somehow on turn length. Last night for example, all I had to move around was some settlers and 2 friggin ships. My turns were over for the most part in 2 minutes. Then we had turns going on for what seemed like half an hour. Can you see my problem? Can someone suggest a solution?
And no, I name no names, I don't find looking at the maps of others between turns an interesting way to pass the time.

I think that on my turns I'm moving units 90% of the time. I take a few pauses here and there to react to and mull over NEW information based on what I've discovered. I think that is fair.
I do NOT micro during my turn except in an emergency.
I'm happy to wait for anyone else to take long turns too.
I'm never bored waiting. I micro to buggery during other peoples turns. I'm negotiating like mad in chat and icq. I'm NEVER bored

I'm very against time limits. I'm bored waiting for my turn, but to impose a time limit removes so much from the game.
One thing we should do is allow Deity or i to host so that our turns go faster.

Deity can't host for technical reasons (unless he's fixed them), so that leaves you, M.
PS: I've finally got cable. Tried a test game with Wezil in Canada this morning, who has just got DSL (or whatever it is). We had problems connecting.

What? After all we've heard about your wretched cable?
Better ask War4 - he has cable.

The Horse Empire resigns itself to no time limits in the game and sends its army off to sun itself at the beach during other player's turns. An epidemic of exposure, sunstroke and skin cancer sweeps the empire

Yeah, but think of the fillies sunbathing topless.
BTW, after test runs with Berzerker and Deity, the cable seems to be working fine.

The Horse Emperor decides to spend the time between turns at his mountain retreat with his concubines, quickly realises long turns aren't so bad after all.
