The private messages should alert you by telling you at the top of your screen that you have a new PM.

Once I didn't notice I had a message for 4 DAYS!

They are almost hidden.

I agree. Although, it bugs me that anybody who spends so much time on Apolyton doesn't have the brains to conscientiously check PMs. I mean, unless you are an AOL weenie, it takes a conscious effort to check e-mails periodically.
