Forum FAQ & General Comments.
First of all, a quick quibble concerning the quality of the forum's fabulous FAQ. Under the section on custom ranks the following rather humorous line appears:
A few, specific, special posters have their own status so that they are easily recognized. For example Brian Reynolds has a "Civilization III Designer" status.
Should be fairly self-explanatory.
Secondly, I'm just curious, but what kind of back-ups does this forum have? Another forum I frequent gets hacked about every 6 months or so (and totally crashes every 3 monthes), BUT they have back-ups of all the member profiles (so no whining about "But I lost my post count!") which they file about every month. What they don't have backups of (and why there was a lot of whining the last time this occured 2 or 3 weeks ago) was the UBB hacks they had stuck in, and there was also much whining over that. Even now they still aren't at the level they had before. I remember always snubbing my nose a bit at them since Apolyton hasn't had a crash or hack in, well, ever (of course Apolyton also attracts a lot more mature posters, too- no, really.). But still, some security wouldn't hurt from the lamers we do have.
So basically what I'm saying is, does Apolyton have backups of all the member profiles and UBB hacks in? Just curious, since it never hurts to be prepared.

Markos composed and keeps the Forum FAQ polished. I'm sure he'll correct this in its next update...
Yes, it does not hurt to be prepared (re: backup). However, a complete forum backup -- UBB member profiles, threads etc. -- can take anywhere from 8-10 hours (no, I am not joking). This is, as you can imagine, a time consuming process; a forum backup usually occurs over a period of 4-5 days, and is performed quarterly.

Well, the FAQ was updated at the end of May, and the BR quote is still in there.
Not to be annoying, but it does look silly...

Well, I'm getting a free post every month and a half, at least. Brian Reynolds is still listed as the Civ3 designer...

See, what would MarkG do without me around? Die of boredom, that's what! Everyone should send me a twenty dollar bill to insure that I keep on the job to insure we still have Apolyton!

Firaxis hasn't updated their FAQ since February, so I think until the new site is up we should lay off Apolyton.

Don't worry about losing profiles- I have (a little bit incorrectly) everyone above Prince Level's profile post count numbers saved.
