Multiplayer Strategy Discussion!
I'm going to post a few screenshots (now that I kind of know how) of different multiplayer game situations and hopefully people will come up with what strategy they would use.

This screenshot is of a game horse and I are still playing, so am unsure of the wisdom of doing this, but since there is already a huge thread about it in strategy, I'd thought It doesn't really matter. Most of that discussion isn't relevant however as people are talking about single player and a whole bunch of other irrelevant stuff. That thread is here. http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum3/HTML/001304.html?59

Heres the screenshot. Hope it works.

Basically we have the white civ on one continent and the green civ on another. It would be good if everyone could think of what they would do for either civ's position.
The Green civ has J.S. Bachs and Michs as well as Sun Tzu's and is in Democracy. The White civ has SOL, Magellans, and shakespears theatre and is in Fundamentalism.

White Civ has 13 cities and about 100 units
Green Civ has 30 cities and about 170 units

Tech level is metallurgy, conscription, railroad.
So far casualties stand at 233 units for the green civ and 222 for the white.

... make peace?

Seriously, I know Makeo is really enjoying this duel with AHorse and I have to take my hat off to the Horse for testing out one of the top players around
Well done AH!

AH, although not the best player with the pg he is clearly a great military strategist To keep a player like Makeo deadlocked in a duel for months on end is sheer genius....
... mind you us Aussies now have to deal with another bloody war-monger! Thanks Makeo!
Shame you're going over to the States to ski for another 6 months and not play civ
I guess AH will test us all out now

As for your post it really gets down to a lucky break, eh? If either one of you can mount a sustained attack at a weak point and hold out on the current front lines, you may strike a big blow.
OR, you could just clam up vet defences and produce as many caras as possible, max out science and get a tech advantage?

Yes, well, I've learnt a lot from this game, which is the first really where I have seen a lot of military aspects thoroughly tested.

Kind words Deity, I suppose I have done well to keep the game alive this long against a far more experienced opponent, but I would certainly have played it a lot differently in the light of what I know now And it ain't over yet

In fact, to test out what I have learnt, I wouldn't mind playing this game again against someone else as a scenario once makeo bunks off overseas. Any takers? Its a ripper of a game.

The very first response is well worth consideration.
Almost everybody here thinks war is mandatory.
Newsflash! It's not.

Since the Greens have many more cities, are in Dem, and have more units (and most should be vets), I think they should follow a defensive/building strategy. Green should be able to very adequately defend existing cities with vet units while advancing tech to Industrialization (for Factories) or Refining (for Power Plants) and Tactics (for both Alpines and Cavalry).

The Whites would seem to be forced toward a military campaign, hopefully aided by Barracks for vet units. The numerical Unit advantage of the Greens is offset by the need to protect the greater number of cities and by the limitations of military action under Democracy. White being in a Fundie gov, a tech race really isn't going to work well, though getting Spies might allow for stealing techs to keep up.

I see White becoming gradually out-militaried and (more rapidly) being economically strangled as Green acquires Industrial and Modern Wonders. Perhaps White could use SoL to become Com (which, properly managed, can be almost as productive as Dem).

Here is a specific question. If you were either green or white, doesn't matter and you were committed to a military move, what would you do?
What specific tactic/units would you use? What city would you go for? How would you do this? How many units would you have before attacking? How would you counter any possible counter move by your enemy?
The white civ's continent is to the right of screen and the green civ's continent is to the left of screen.

Assume current tech level.

As I said - don't help him - white is the underdog here

White also has much cooler city names

I almost never root for the underdog, unless it's me, or whoever is playing the Bronco's or 49 ers. The outcome is usually depressing when you want the underdog to win.

I couldn't help but take note of the puny size of the cities and the rather squalid tech level for so late a date. Is this not a lesson about the evils of perpetual warfare?

I would just like to point out for the record that makeo started this war by tech stealing

He has also rejected several peace overtures from the horse empire

The one that jumps out at me is Allah Horsebah!Nice place to move ships thru.Carrying freight of course. For either side.

I have never seen so many forts in one area.Even against the AI.That one that Horse holds on the mountain beside Araptaxy would concern the heck out of me.I see no walls and it looks like it is one square off the river(no defensive bonus)

Another strategic city is Thats Clasified(misspelt). If green got that one,it could be a gateway into the Hoofed Empire.

Victory to Horse also looks potentially strategic.

It would be tough and tricky but the city ending in nalco could be flanked via the ocean thru Allah Horsebah!

Those forts leading into Bangalore need to be pillaged or occupied.White could land in the one closest to the whale and cause headaches. But its hard to tell for sure.I see a green city starting in Y near Halauxytal. That entire area may be controlled by green.

Thanks Smash for a good analysis. The fort near Araptaxyl is basically impossible to move. A good move by horse establishing it there. Forts are much better for defending your cities than the cities themselves are. You can have as many units you want, without the risk of losing many to one hit as in when a city is reduced to zero.

I think you have it correct in saying that Allah Horsbah and Thats Classified are important cities.
Its difficult to take them as there are no roads leading to them. What kind of strategy would you use?
If you were the white civ would you try and take Halauxytl or Yokohoma (the only green cities on your continent btw) or make a move on the other green cities.

the attack you suggest on the city ending in nalco, is probably a good idea, probably by landing units in the fort just to the north west? You would have to counter green pillaging the roads to his city somehow. Probably Araptaxyl would be a better choice as the fortified mountain gives a better/safer launching point.

Victory to horse was originally white then it went green and then back to white. Allah Horsebah originally belonged to green and was used to ship troops to take Victory to horse the first time.

Hey Horse, Smash's visual reminded me of something absolutely hilarious that I tried to send you at the e-mail address in your profile, but it was undeliverable. Something about having exceeded your quota. Whats up with that? Is there some way I can send you an e-mail? (It's an mpg file, so I can't post it. Wish I could, though.)

I can't wait for horse's response to tonights session. I dip-raped (spy-raped just doesn't sound as good) two of his cities from size 10 to 1 and another from 8 to four. I ran out of spies.

I take this as a sign that you have concluded that you cannot win by conventional means. Its kind of a compliment really that you've been reduced to that approach

Raise your luxuries, A.H.
Maybe 30% to luxuries?
Happy cities are expensive cities to dip/spy.

bloody hell, i'm mental sometimes. I posted my map to show that i've captured 'allah horsebah' and destroyed 'thats classified'as well as five other horse cities, all with conventional means.

Probably not a good idea to post my map however. I can win with conventional methods, just not in eight days.
