Markos is also on my ignore list.
Anyway, I thought Spaceward Ho! is half decent. Sure, there's not a whole lot to do in the game, but it's not a big game. The theme twist is interesting as well.
The worst empire building game is Birth of the Federation. Ye gad.

The ignore thing has to do with the antiqueness of this thread...

Outpost certainly deserves a mention here.
Since it's routinely called the worst game ever, I imagine it would have to be one of the worst empire building games too.

Star Trek: New Worlds-AWFUL

Solution : Don't play with AI. It's amazing how less it suffers from the boringness, altough it's almost similar to SimCity-series...

Empire was a good game for its day and age- quite sophisticated- although the war fighting took far too long... it should have been sped up or skipped
Markos is on peoples' ignore lists because he accidentally deleted his old account and had to reconsturct his account.

Wasn't Elite a space-game?
That would be pretty cheap if he did resue it thoguh, I will agree.
And yes, the AI is annoying- but you have to admit- it's the best transport game... Industry Giant was trash; the recent transport game- Car Tycoon is trash, and Detroit was too hard to play

Yeah, Transport Tycoon Deluxe.
The only thing wrong with it, is that when you founded an Industry, you didn't actually own it, and you didn't make any profit from it.
I really liked capitalizing South America, though
I've heard a rumor that there is a sequel coming on. Could it be?

The best part of that original post I made (that DC replied to and brought this thread back up) is that I had a completely different personality at the time.
I had troll tendencies back in the day.

Transport Tycoon is still a good game, and the patch makes it even better. For one thing, now if you own 75% of another company you can take go in whenever you want and run it as if it was your original company.

Sorry I was looking at the old posteruserids and found a poster with two posts- then clicked the link to see where it led- noticed that Apocalypse had posted in the thread before- noticed that he was online and knew that he still posted in othergames... and so I posted
and at least this thread has been worth some discussion!

Well, at the time I was also a webmaster for Apolyton's rival SidGames.
About his version Elite - some of the same graphics from there (mainly the menus) are also in Transport Tycoon and Roller Coaster Tycoon. It's crazy.
BTW, when is there going to be some list for people like me who have been around a long time and did a lot of stuff back in the day but haven't done much lately?

Not sure... I know a little bit about people such as yourself and fjxorc and others... but since I wasn't there in 1998 or 1999, I relaly can't write as an expert- I would be glad to assemble the information, but I would need a collaborator... If I had a collaborator and we were serious- I bet that Ming and DanQ would help us out, as dan has expressed interest and I bet I could rope Ming or rah into the thing
If you want to work on the preliminaries for such a thing, I'll be glad to work with you

How can anyone not like Transport Tycoon?
For worst BotF was not good, but I'm sure there must be worse. I'm struggling to think of any though, since I normally manage to avoid really bad games.

The Settlers II is among the best games ever made, while S3 + S4 doesn't even come close...
Settlers III + IV has almost no strategy in the game anymore... I'm doing my best to convince BB/Ubi-soft to get back to the S1 + S2 gameplay (Of course in a much more updated version )... They are making The Settlers 3D, and in an interview they mentioned a little about having a look at the Settlers I + II gameplay, if I'm not mistaking (It's been some time, since I last time read it)... let's just hope they do more than "just looking at"
The worst one I can think about at the moment, is AoE (I + II)... not that it was THAT bad, but I simply hate games that have average gameplay, but a very famous for some strange reason... AoE is a very known game, but the gameplay is below average

Compared to the expectations I had on the game CTP sucked gigantic elephant balls. I could never get any feel for the game world at all, I borrowed it to a friend and never cared to get it back.

I think I've managed to block out all the truly awful games. Outpost was bad but I'm sure there were worse Empire building games than that. Pretty much every tycoon game except Transport, Railroad and Monopoly are dire. Then there are the sort of games that PC Gamer award under 20%. I've never dared load any of those to see how bad they really are
